Senior Design Integration Engineer
AtkinsRéalis is one of Canada's largest private sector nuclear engineering groups. We have been providing a wide range of services to the nuclear industry in Canada and around the world since for more than 60 years. We are proud to be the steward of Canadian CANDU nuclear technology.
As a Senior Design Integration Engineer, you will act as a systems design integrator, responsible for considering the problem and solution domains of each project in a systematic manner, accounting for all necessary enabling systems and services, identifying the role that the system elements and the relationships between those elements play with respect to the overall behaviour and performance of the system, and balance all these factors to achieve a satisfactory validated final system design.
This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.
Your role within the team:
Accountable for delivering all assigned engineering and licensing activities and deliverables to achieve project objectives within specified timelines and budgets. You will achieve this by performing, and overseeing the technical work of others performing, the following core activities:
- Plan and undertake all required design integration and holistic systems engineering for the active projects. Activities will vary depending on project scope but will include such things as:
- Identify and continually manage the goals, purpose and success criteria for the final system design from all stakeholders, defining actual or anticipated customer needs, operational concept and required functionality.
- Systematically elicit, capture, track, and ensure effective implementation of all requirements for the system, resolving and recording any conflicts and demonstrating compliance in a suitable manner.
- Establish appropriate system lifecycle models, process approaches, and governance structures, considering the level of complexity, uncertainty, change, and variety within the system throughout its life.
- Create high-level system structure models that outline the major components, interfaces, and interactions within the system.
- Evaluate system total lifecycle costs, considering development, operation, maintenance, and disposal costs, to evaluate design and operational concept alternatives.
- Lead the engineering team in generating and evaluating alternative solution concepts and design options, including performing value engineering.
- Lead design synthesis, ensuring the system undergoes suitable and sufficient verification and validation.
- Facilitate and drive the integration of all relevant disciplines and specialty groups for each project into a cohesive effort that proceeds effectively and in an integrated manner from concept to production, and beyond (testing, commissioning, operation, etc.).
- Lead the identification and management of programmatic, technical, and operational risks associated with engineering activities for each project.
- Select and apply the appropriate systems design and modelling tools as required, including running system simulations using simulation software.
- Prepare or review system-level engineering design analyses (such as Requirements Analysis, Functional Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, Optimization, Hazard and Safety Analysis, Reliability, Availability and Maintainability, etc.), design documents, test plans, and technical specifications, as required for each project scope, ensuring implementation of results.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations, and ensuring the adequacy of design for permits, licensing, and compliance with approved plans, as applicable.
- Oversee all required licensing submissions related to the project, preparing submissions where required, and reviewing and supporting other discipline engineers in preparing their topic-specific licensing submissions.
- Perform plant walkdowns if required by the project, for example in support of new design requirements definition, solutions ideation, or performing design modifications.
- Provide technical instructions, mentorship, and leadership to junior engineers and others to enable effective performance of their assigned activities.
- Review and comment on the work performed by others to ensure suitable scope, accuracy, completeness, and quality of technical information and design documentation.
- Check the work performed meets the quality requirements in accordance with company QA programs and manuals, as well as the specific requirements of the customer and project scope.
- Participate in formal engineering design and other reviews as may be mandated for the design activities.
- Support business development in the team through delivering quality on-time work, cultivating valued contacts with customer counterparts through technical excellence, and supporting the preparation of engineering estimates and technical write-ups for proposals.
Why choose AtkinsRéalis as an employer?
