The Role!
Reactor Decommissioning (RD) is responsible for the execution of all activities associated with the decommissioning of Gentilly-1 Waste Facility (G1WF) and Douglas Point Waste Facilities (DPWF).
The Job Supervisor is accountable to the Project Manager, G1WF, to ensure that facilities, resources, and support groups are operated and maintained in a manner that ensures compliance to CNL’s procedures and regulatory guidelines.
The Job Supervisor will reinforce management’s expectations for safe work practices and the consequences for not following safe work practices. The Job Supervisor will address performance and time management issues at the job sites.
The Job Supervisor shall ensure all paperwork, records, and procedures are completed and followed, and that all safety rules are adhered to. The Job Supervisor shall also provide planning, oversight, and support for routine and non-routine project work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems comprising the facility are maintained. Work could involve housekeeping, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ ceilings, stripping process equipment, and demolition work up to and including entire structures.
The Job Supervisor is faced with a wide range of issues daily, as a result of the diverse group of facilities, resources, and composition of the responsibilities of the Gentilly-1 Waste Facility.
What Will You Be Doing!
- Review and Comment (R&C) on documents related to the G-1 Decommissioning program;
- Lead facility response to emergencies, both internal and external, as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward (ES) of the G1WF;
- Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls;
- Work with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection, OSH, Industrial Hygiene, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program;
- Maintain, update, and ensure G-1 Decommissioning is following the Decommissioning and Demolitions (D&D) program preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-with-Surveillance (SwS), and compliance activities on-time;
- Supervise teams (up to 20 staff or contractors) during field work;
- Lead demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site;
- Supervise operation of heavy demolition equipment;
- Supervise site reduction and packaging of radioactive/ and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with Waste Management (WMP’s);
- Own and manage job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, and traffic and pedestrian control;
- Lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre-job/ post-jobs briefs are completed;
- Support the development and implementation of training;
- Provide coaching as necessary;
- Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement;
- Work with technical staff to resolve problems/ issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution; and
- Prepare documents to support the development and execution of work packages or small projects.
The Job Supervisor will be part of a matrix organization providing input to decommissioning planning and work execution processes throughout the life cycle of the facility decommissioning phase.
What We Are Looking For!
- Secondary School graduation with Grade 12 advanced level in Math, Science, and English or equivalent;
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent;
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work atmosphere in a unionized environment, practicing confidentiality, dependability, and accountability;
- Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions, and to lead others in such conditions;
- Familiarity with emergency procedures and responsibilities;
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control;
- Ability to obtain Radiation Protection Group 3 certification within three (3) months;
- A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures, and organization;
- Familiarity with the planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Plan), and work plans;
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets, and detailed instructions;
- Computer literate in Microsoft suite of products (i.e. Outlook ® , Word ® , Excel ® , and Access ®);
- Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs;
- Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
- Analytical skills capable of producing plans and schedule;
- Self-starter, capable of working under pressure with changing priorities and deadline, responded, and in good standing with their peers;
- Site Access security clearance;
- Familiarity with Canada Labour Code, Part II;
- Familiarity with Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
- Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings, and how to apply them when performing decommissioning activities is required; and
- Knowledge of CNSC regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities is an asset.
The Job Supervisor is responsible for instructing a multi-discipline workforce to follow the plans, documents and procedures pertaining to decommissioning, while following the methods and practices required to be in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines.
The Job Supervisor is responsible for the execution of preventive maintenance, emergency and corrective maintenance, work plan activities, work permits and compliance monitoring, along with preparing a daily log, overseeing field work, and maintaining compliance with G-1 Licence.
