Tasks to be Accomplished
- Lead a cross functional team consisting of functional leads from Design Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing Engineering, Procurement, Customer Service, ILS, Tech Pubs, PMO and Sales & Marketing through all phases of new product introduction
- Ensure compliance to New Product Introduction (NPI) Phase Review Guideline
- Coordinate all project activities amongst cross- functional team members to ensure schedule, budget, and quality adherence to agreed upon NPI project milestones per the NPI SOW
- Generate NRE estimates for new product developments
- Generate and maintain a fully integrated NPI project schedule
- Maintain labour and non-labour forecasts for the NPI project
- Work with managers to secure and maintain resources for execution of project tasks
- Manage external contractors working on the project
- Manage project risks to minimize adverse impacts
- Oversee design compliance and verification to product requirements
- Coordinate the resolution of all non-conformances
- Coordinate the generation of and review all project/product documentation such as specifications, work statements, presentation & review material, reliability & quality reports design documentation, technical publications and verification plans/reports
- Organize and chair design reviews, project stage gate reviews and weekly project team meetings.
- Present project status to Senior Management at the monthly meetings
- Coordinate the build and troubleshooting of early production builds (alpha & beta units)
- Support daily Operation meetings
- Work with demand manager to ensure initial customer delivery dates can be achieved
- Provide support to Program Management for initial low rate customer production
- Coordinate engineering change requests and orders through the NPI stage
- Manage the transition of the new product into full production
- Support Sales & Marketing, Bids & Proposals, ILS and Tech Pubs by providing technical and cost information on new products
- Be accountable to the Engineering Product Manager
Skills Required
- Extensive knowledge of new product development processes
- Strong leadership, planning, organizational, analytical, and decision making skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills with an ability to handle multiple tasks and effectively balance priorities
- Ability to communicate project related and technical details clearly and concisely, both orally and in written form
- Ability to deal directly with internal and external customers
- Able to generate and update product development schedules using Microsoft Project
- Able to generate and present technical project reviews using Microsoft PowerPoint
- Able to generate project reports and analysis using Microsoft Word and Excel
- Knowledge of Risk Management techniques
- Familiarity with AS9100, Lean principles, Six Sigma
- Basic knowledge of the following:
- Design of products to be used on aircraft, maritime or ground vehicles
- Verification testing to military and aerospace standards
- IR and EO sensor technology and optical design principles
- Laser illuminators, rangefinders, and designators
- Digital and analog video standards
- Control system design
- Mechanical design including packaging, vibration isolation and thermal management
- Shielding, bonding, grounding and impedance matching principles
- Servos, gyros, microprocessors, FPGAs, DC power distribution
- Opto-mechanical design, electronic circuit card design, VHDL design, embedded software development
Experience & Education Requirements
- Bachelor Degree & minimum 6 years’ project management/engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, or
- Graduate degree and minimum 4 years’ experience, or
- In lieu of a degree, 10 years’ related experience
- Engineering degree & experience in aerospace industry preferred
- PMP certification is an asset
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary product development project teams
