The Decommissioning Engineer will be part of the Gentilly-1 Decommissioning Projects team throughout the lifecycle of Gentilly-1 Waste Facility decommissioning. The Decommissioning Engineer will support Project Leaders in the execution of projects at Gentilly-1 including statement of work preparation, review of drawings, review of work control packages, providing oversight of staff and contractors executing decommissioning work, and providing technical expertise during implementation of field work activities at the site. Our Gentilly-1 site is nestled in a predominantly French-speaking town and while our work and documents are primarily in English, in the event of an emergency, audible alarms at the site will be in French. Emails and other communications will be in both French and English.
What will you be doing!
- Providing technical support during the design, work package preparation, and decommissioning field work required to decommission the Gentilly-1 Waste Facility.
- Performing timely reviews of submitted drawings and documentation during all phases of the project.
- Performing engineering surveillance of contractor activities, both at Gentilly-1 and at contractor facilities.
- Providing CNL and HQ sponsoring of contractor personnel accessing the site and oversight of contractors while ensuring the safe execution of field work activities.
- Responding to queries relating to logistics, CNL compliance programs, and CNL procedures.
- Providing technical assistance to the Project Manager and other project team members.
- Preparing, reviewing, and issuing, as appropriate, technical notes, reports, memos, plans, or other documents.
- Assisting in developing project schedules, budgets, and work packages.
- Interfacing with stakeholders and participants to ensure technical work is coordinated to meet requirements and ensuring deliverables meet requirements and are completed on time and within budget.
- Travelling, as required, to external supplier facilities for meetings, surveillance, or other activities.
- Being available for work during off hours as required to meet project requirements.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- A Bachelors (Honours) Degree in Engineering from a university of recognized standing.
- Membership in an engineering professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization is considered an asset.
- Experience
- Five (5) or more years’ experience within the nuclear industry, ideally in work associated with the waste management, decommissioning, and/or processing systems.
- Experience in dealing with engineering and construction contractors.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in design and construction.
- Strong knowledge of radiation protection principles and practices is considered an asset.
- Knowledge of CNL’s Compliance programs, Engineering Change Control process, Project Management process, Quality Assurance process, and Work Control processes.
- The ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team including contractors and stakeholders.
- Good interpersonal and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure, with conflicting priorities and regulatory requirements.
- The ability to gather, analyze, and assemble a variety of technical information and strong technical writing skills.
- Excellent computer literacy including spreadsheets, databases, design software, and word processing software.
- The ability and willingness to work independently as required, taking responsibility for selected aspects of the project.
- Highly disciplined, punctual, honest, and exhibit a good work ethic.
- Good record-keeping and organizational skills, and be able to manage multiple activities and responsibilities.
- Willing to travel and work overtime when required to provide technical support
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”

CNL’s Gentilly-1 Prototype Reactor (shut down and partially decommissioned) is located on the Gentilly Nuclear Generating Station site on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River in Bécancour, Quebec, 100 km northeast of Montreal.
