What will you be doing!
- Being a Project Leader for IT project or portfolio/program of projects
- Planning projects from initiation to implementation
- Drafting of project management documents such as project scope statements, project charters, project execution plans, risk management plans, risk registers etc.
- Identifying of stakeholders and their impact on the project success
- Identifying project team members and clearly understanding their roles and responsibilities
- Managing of the project team, stakeholders and vendors
- Estimating project duration and effort
- Experience with building project schedules in programs such as Primavera or MS Project
- Preparing project budgets
- Preparing various types of reports such as monthly progress reports, cost reports, stakeholder reports, two week look-ahead, etc.
- Updating project schedules at regular intervals to track progress against the baseline
- Understanding of earned value management
- Understanding of processed to secure funding through gating and sanctioning
- Supporting project team members
- Drafting of procurement documents such as statements of work or request for information.
- Developing a vendor evaluation matrix to be used to measure proponents in a fair and equitable manner
- Measuring project benefits against the requirements
- Confirming project deliverables align with expectations and standards
- Controlling project procurements
- Controlling project costs and working within the approved budget
- Identifying risks and risk resolutions
- Managing and controlling project scope as defined in the project scope statement
- Celebrating project successes
- Directing and managing all aspects of the project activities
- Managing stakeholder expectations
- Developing a communication strategy and managing as expected
- Closing out projects and filing all documents as records.
- Tracking lessons learned
- Ensuring a safe work place for everyone
- Other duties as assigned by your manager
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Graduation from a recognized educational institution in computer science OR
- Graduation from an equivalent formal educational program and relevant IT technical and project management experience.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is highly desirable.
- Experience
- Ten (10) or more years of recent related industry and demonstrated experience in a technology field aligned with departmental deliverables
- Three (3) or more years of demonstrated experience in a supervisory/leadership or project management role
- Experience and understanding of project management methodologies
- Experience with the delivery of IT applications and SaaS solutions with and understanding of various methodologies including Agile, Scrum, Iterative and Waterfall.
- Experience with IT hardware solutions will be an asset (network, data centers, telecommunications, etc…)
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proven ability to successfully apply project planning, monitoring and control techniques, as well as accurately estimate resource and budgetary requirements
- Proven track record for managing efficient cost and schedule performance and quality of deliverables for contracted services for large projects
- Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams of professional employees, consultants and contractors
- Consistently demonstrates understanding of project management principles (can quote principles and explain PMI concepts including EV and CPI)
- Consistently demonstrated ability to work independently, handle deadline pressures, and effectively escalate project issues.
- Demonstrated expertise in business systems analysis, technology-appropriate integration/deployment/development methodologies, and analysis and design techniques as applied over the entire lifecycle of an information system
- For software-related roles, demonstrated application in one or more SDLC methodologies (e.g. Waterfall, RAD, JAD, Iterative) and able to provide input to recommendations for application of methodology to optimize development.
- Ability to accurately estimate development efforts
- Understands software testing techniques and toolsets
- Demonstrated interpersonal, presentation and customer service skills to build relationships with internal staff and external suppliers
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills to prepare required documentation
- Demonstrates influencing and negotiation skills to optimize the outcome of project deliverables, working in partnership with peers, business users and IT service providers.
- Remains current with industry trends and best practices as they relate to their IT specific area.
- Strong knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Communicates effectively in oral, written, and electronic form as appropriate for the needs of the project team.
- Demonstrated personal accountability.
- Makes effective presentations to project teams.
- Must be professional in all dealings and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity.

- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
