AtkinsRéalis Environment has one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and is currently seeking a Junior Environmental Scientistto join our BCteam.The successful candidate will be responsible forassisting with and learning to complete fundamental tasks related to Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and related environmental support work, including groundwater monitoring and sampling, investigationandsampling programs, remedialexcavations, remedialtreatment system support, and spill response. Other technical responsibilities may include work in the field, subcontractor supervision, sample and data management, and report preparation for peer review.
Location - Burnaby, / Vancouver, BCYour role within the team:
Assistance with/completion of:
- Assisting or leadingfield programs for sampling and assessment of groundwater, surface water, soil, soil vapour, sediment, rock, and mine waste materials.
- Collection of field data and preparation of detailed documentation (e.g., monitoring data, field notes, site sketches, photographs, GPS data).
- Interpreting field data and preparation of summaries for project team members.
- Calibration and operation, and maintenance of field instruments and equipment.
- Historical data review and site inspections.
- Environmental drilling activities and remedial investigation and excavation programs.
- Conducting safety meetings, maintaining a safe worksite and adhering to all health, safety and environment protocols including contractor oversight.
- Communication with on-site personnel and Project Managers.

The ideal candidate:
- Diploma or Degree from a program with relevant subject matter.
- A general understanding of groundwater monitoring and sampling techniques, soil descriptions and terminology, and quality assurance / quality control.
- Strong communication skills,both written and verbal,and the ability to work independently and with a team.
- Self-motivated, strong work ethic, strong organizational and time management skills, positive attitude, and willingness to learn.
- Capable of understanding and appropriately applying prescribed safety and technical protocols.
- Willing to undertake field work year-round, work in varying climatic conditions,and travel throughout Western Canada, and at times, be away from home for extended periods (weeks).
- As the position involvesfield work, the candidate must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
- A working knowledge of remedial system pump operation/maintenance is an asset but not a requirement.
- Candidates must possess a Valid Class 5 Full driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Experience working around heavy equipment (excavators, drill rigs, etc.) would be valuable.
