The Opportunity:
The Specialist, Nuclear Quality Assurance reports to the Manager, Nuclear Engineering, Construction and Project Delivery. This role is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining an approved supplier list for SaskPower’s nuclear program. As a member of SaskPower’s management team, the Specialist performs and documents supplier audits, assessments, oversights and inspections. They provide technical guidance, assistance and support to procurement staff, engineering staff, consultants, and suppliers to identify, resolve and prevent quality issues related to the procurement of products and services.
The Person:
The Specialist, Nuclear Quality Assurance would possess a strong background in nuclear engineering or quality assurance, with proven experience in supplier audits, assessments, and inspections with regulated environments. They should have meticulous attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to provide technical guidance and support to various Stakeholders.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for documenting findings and collaborating with procurement staff, engineering teams, consultants, and suppliers. The ideal candidate would be a team player with a collaborative mindset, strong leadership abilities, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. Flexibility to adapt to changing regulations and project requirements, along with a relevant educational background and certifications, would also be beneficial.
Develop, implement and maintain an approved supplier list for SaskPower’s nuclear program
- Performing and documenting Supplier audits and providing technical guidance, assistance and support to procurement staff, engineering staff, consultants, and suppliers to identify, resolve and prevent quality problems related to the procurement of products and services. Providing guidance relating to the Approved Suppliers List (ASL).
- Performing and documenting supplier assessments. Identification of issues, challenges, risks, and opportunities for performance improvements that may impact the success of a project.
- Performing and documenting procurement oversight activities to ensure compliance with applicable engineering, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements.
- Developing and updating governance (i.e., program, procedures, instructions, guides, forms, etc.) to ensure effective implementation of supply chain and quality management requirements.
- Acting independently with limited supervision during Supplier audits, source inspections, oversights, assessments. Make decisions on the Supplier's quality program effectiveness and status on ASL.
- Planning, developing, and presenting training courses for staff of SaskPower and associated organizations to ensure that quality-related policies, procedures and practices associated with the procurement of products and services are understood and properly implemented.
Post-Secondary Degree in related field, Engineering, Science or other related equivalent
- Five (5) to Ten (10) years’ experience in managing and overseeing Canadian Nuclear Standard Audits
- Knowledge and experience in Quality Management and Quality Assurance principles
- Team player with the ability to build and maintain strategic relationships both internal and external to SaskPower
- Results oriented thinker, with the ability to manage and provide advice regarding complex and confidential issues with sensitivity and professionalism
- Excellent analytical, research and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work and manage in a changing environment
- Excellent facilitation, project management and decision-making skills
- Ability to to foster a culture focused on safety, innovation, and teamwork
- Demonstrated skill in SaskPower’s competencies
