Our Nuclear Canada business is experiencing significant growth driven in part by planned New Build projects underway internationally and domestically. Candu Energy Inc., an AtkinsRéalis company has entered into an agreement with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to deliver the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). The project is spearheading the deployment of the GEH BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) before the end of the decade. It will be the first grid-scale SMR deployed in Canada.
The Engineering Manager (EM) – Electrical will report functionally to the Engineering Director, Candu Engineering, and daily to the Site project Technical Engineering Director. The Engineering Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a site project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance and will be responsible for assigned aspects of site related engineering, and construction delivery for a New Nuclear program. This role will require close stakeholder management of partners and client, as well as leadership of project team members. The EM – Electrical Engineering is expected to have significant experience and skills in engineering, procurement, construction, contract management and project controls incusing project delivery and project execution methodology. Leading integrated teams is an equally important skill; developing and building a large team of professionals is a requirement of this role.
As DNNP is considered a mega Project, the overall engineering scope has been divided into bundles; one of which is called Nuclear Island. This scope is comprised of the Reactor Building, Radwaste Building, Control Building, and Service Building. This role is to provide engineering oversight for these scope for detailed site-specific design scopes to support the construction schedule.
This role will be based in Oshawa ON.
The project teams are predominantly located to the east of Toronto near and at the project site in Courtice-Darlington Nuclear Generating Station in Ontario.
Various work locations as required at Pickering, ON including Oshawa, ON, and Mississauga, ON.
Your role within the team:
Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design to installation at a new build station of Electrical Systems including definition of system functional and performance requirements and environmental and seismic qualification.
Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
Coordinating and oversight of instrumentation and control design activities related to the completion of fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
Coordinating the design interface between the NSP and balance of plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving other engineering teams (Civil, Electrical, Human Factors etc.), Procurement, Quality
Ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, and in accordance with the contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements.
Interfacing with stakeholders, including Engineering peers, Modelling, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective equipment and/or system vendors, to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that the resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
Ensuring department deliverables are produced in accordance with budget, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
Removing barriers that could impact safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.
People Management Requirements:
Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
Working with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.
The Engineering Manager will oversee the work of 10 to 20 Instrumentation and Control engineering staff. Supervisory responsibilities include:

The ideal candidate:
Bachelor’s degree in in Electrical Engineering, or related field from an accredited University. Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, qualified to seal engineering documents.
10+ years’ experience supporting various type of projects including engineering services, refurbishments, and/or new build construction projects. 5+ years’ experience leading teams is required. Experience on a new build project is an asset (e.g. nuclear, combined cycle, un-conventional nuclear).
Experience managing engineering work with interfacing requirements involving other engineering teams (Process / Systems, Mechanical, Physics, Safety, Licensing, Civil / Structural, Instrumentation and Controls, Human Factors,), Procurement, Quality Assurance, Contracts, and Construction including prospective equipment and/or system vendors, to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that the resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
Technical Skills:
Assemble and lead a multidisciplinary project team, ensuring effective communication and collaboration among engineers, architects, contractors, and other stakeholders. Capable of supervising engineering professionals (Bundle Design Engineers, Stress Analysts, and Materials/Welding Engineers).
Maintain supervisory org. and mange career development of assigned project resources to the betterment of the individuals, the project and the business.
Thorough knowledge of Canadian and International Codes and standards used in Electrical engineering (e.g. CSA-Canadian Electrical safety Code, ESA-Ontario Electrical Safety Code, NFPA-National Electrical Code, IEEE, ANSI, NETSA, etc), of EPRI Guidelines and INPO Topical Reports.
Knowledge of Standard Modification Design Process is an asset.
Thorough knowledge in Analysis software used in Electrical engineering (e.g. ETAP, EDSA, EMTP-RV, etc.
Proven experience sizing and specifying electrical equipment.
Proven experience preparing and reviewing complex Electrical design layouts and schematics.
Proven experience preparing and reviewing Electrical Protection and Control designs.
Experience in conducting condition assessments of Electrical systems.
Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286), and quality standards (CSA N299) and other applicable standards and nuclear regulatory guides.
Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA, IEC, IEEE, and suites of standards pertaining to Electrical, Instrumentation and Control Engineering and other applicable standards and nuclear regulatory guides.
Experience delivering an overall plant control system design of a power production facility.
Experience and capability in regulatory communications in a regulated industry is an asset.
Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.
Experience interfacing with US NRC for Standard Review Plan is an asset.
Commercial acumen, with experience in procurement, contracts, supply chain, and/or logistics.
Experience in Engineering Change Control process for Field run as build conditions to the Station/Plant, to the relevant Codes and Standards. Provide dispositions to non-conformances identified by construction and supply chain. Update Technical Specifications when required.
Provide input to Field Change Requests by construction. Find solutions with the assigned engineers.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Working knowledge of/experience with the CSA standards pertaining to Civil /Structural
