Our Nuclear division is seeking an engineering/scientific professional to join the Nuclear Safety team. This position is responsible for managing diverse assignments that require broad engineering or scientific knowledge and an understanding of their impact on other areas. Under the guidance of the Regional Overpower Protection Specialist (ROP), Superintendent Deterministic Safety Analysis and the Reactor Physics Supervisor, the incumbent will be responsible for executing the safety analysis program in compliance with the Power Reactor Operating License (PROL).
Key functions include:
- Monitoring ROP (Regional Overpower Protection) Margins.
- Developing and executing the ROP analysis/maintenance strategy to ensure operating margin is adequately maintained until end of plant life
- Implementation of new ROP analysis limits.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, Science or Applied Science, preferably with a focus on nuclear engineering and/or reactor physics.
- Six years of engineering experience in safety analysis, reactor physics and/or regional overpower protection analysis methods this would include demonstrating knowledge or experience with one or more of the following:
- Reactor physics and fueling
- Regional overpower protection (ROP) design (for SDS1 and SDS2)
- ROP physics analysis and trip setpoint analysis methodologies
- ROP uncertainties, biases and their impact on methodologies
- ROP implementation and track/adjusting methods
- Reactor physics and ROP code theory to identify methodology enhancement to maximize ROP operating margins as much as possible
- Software programming
- Station operation applying to ROP margin management (i.e., Reactor Regulating System (RRS), Primary Heat Transport (PHT) System, Secondary Side Systems)
- Thermal hydraulics
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or eligibility for immediate registration as an EIT with APEGNB is required for those with an engineering background (i.e., scientific background does not need professional engineering designation).
If no candidate is identified who meets the specified criteria for the Engineer/Scientist I-IV position above, candidates who meet the educational qualifications only may also be considered.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
Due to security requirements at Canadian Nuclear facilities, the successful candidate will require a Site Access Security Clearance which includes verification of background information, references, a Criminal Record Name Check and a Canadian Security Intelligence Service security recommendation.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
