About the Role
We’re looking for a Pension, Benefits & Continuous Improvement Specialist to administer, manage, and enhance our pension and benefits programs across all Commercial Operations (Canada) locations. Reporting to the North American VP, Total Rewards, HR Systems & Process (“VP Total Rewards”), you will also lead continuous improvement projects within the HR team and is supported by one indirect report.
This role is integral in building strong relationships with both internal stakeholders and external vendors while ensuring seamless execution of our benefits and pension programs. You’ll work closely with Total Rewards, Payroll, Finance, HR, and external consultants to drive excellence in plan administration, employee education, and strategic improvements.
What You’ll Do
Pension & Benefits Administration
- Oversee group insurance plans, acting as the primary company contact for consultants, insurance providers, and plan administrators.
- Ensure seamless communication and education for employees and retirees through group sessions, one-on-one meetings, and written materials.
- Maintain and update plan information in SAP and other HR systems.
- Collaborate with IT, HRIS, Payroll, and Labour Relations to optimize processes.
- Address employee inquiries with a customer-focused approach, including resolving complex benefit and pension issues.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and harmonize benefit offerings across employee groups.
Pension & Group Savings Plans Governance
- Serve as a key resource for the BWXT Canada Pension Committee.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (FSRA/OSFI) and oversee plan governance activities such as audits, funding, and legal amendments.
- Keep the organization informed of legislative changes impacting pension and savings plans.
Labour Relations & Collective Bargaining
- Play a critical role in union negotiations, providing insights on pension and benefit matters.
- Prepare data-driven cost analyses and support bargaining teams with recommendations on plan design and updates.
Continuous Improvement & Special Projects
- Lead process improvement initiatives within HR using Six Sigma and other methodologies.
- Support acquisitions and integrations, reviewing plan designs and making recommendations to leadership.
What You Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, or related field (an asset).
- Certified Benefits/Pension Specialist (CEB, CEBS, PPAC) or equivalent.
- 7+ years of experience in pension and benefits administration within a complex, unionized environment.
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.
- High proficiency in HR systems, financial analysis, and legislative compliance.
- Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and discretion.
- Excellent communication and relationship management skills.

The base salary range for this position in [[Ontario]] at the start of employment is expected to be between $[[89,000]] and $[[139,000]] per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
