BWXT Medical are hiring a Development Engineering Manager - 2 year-term at our site in Kanata, ON.
The Development Engineering Manager will:
PURPOSE:
To provide technical oversight and manage a team in the BWXT Medical, Engineering & Development department. Leads team to improve current manufacturing processes and solutions as well as development of new products. Has responsibility for the technical performance and safe execution of work executed by team.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Technical leadership accountabilities (Technical Leadership)
- Directly interact with customers and partners
- Prepares or reviews estimates for projects (scope, cost, schedule)
- Frequently make technical decisions with the potential for impact on the department
- Occasionally make technical decisions with potential for impact on organization
- Communicates and enforces organizational priorities and goals
- Lead and advise engineers and technicians to meet quality and project requirements
- Demonstrate critical thinking and technical problem solving
- Demonstrate flexible thinking, ability to pivot when change in organization priority occurs
- Ensures programs and specifications are followed
- Create reports and give updates on projects
- Oversee/lead systematic resolution of technical troubleshooting and root cause investigation
- Participate in technical dispute resolution process
- Provide technical assistance and participate in collaborative cross functional business initiatives with other teams, like Finance, Marketing, Operations, Quality, Environmental Health & Safety and Regulatory Affairs
Functional manager accountabilities (People Leadership)
- Lead and motivate employees
- Hire team members
- Oversee training for employees
- Responsible for performance management of employees
- Provide administrative and site supervisory oversight for employees
- Accountable to oversee laboratory safety and work practices to prevent injury or illness for employees
Manage small and medium sized projects (Project Manager)
- Lead technical teams to design, build and test prototypes of equipment and processes
- Ensures project objectives and specifications are met
- Liaise with Project Leaders/Managers regarding resource allocation
- Monitor and report on project progress
- Lead and advise technicians and engineers to meet project requirements
- Oversees coordination of tasks to execute work
- Liaise with HR related for employee or bargaining unit issues
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Relevant University Honours Degree, usually Engineering or Science
- P.Eng or eligible for P.Eng is valuable
- Project Management Professional (PMP) or other Project Management Institute (PMI) designation is valuable
- 10 years working experience
- 6-sigma, Lean or other manufacturing or quality designation/certification is valuable
- Certification as a Root cause investigator or facilitator is valuable
- 3 years’ experience in the Nuclear Medicine Field
- Experience leading projects related to Medical Device or Final Drug Product Development
- Experience working with relevant health and nuclear regulatory agencies, like: Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission, US Food and Drug Administration, Health Canada
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to balance competing priorities
- Experience overseeing work that adheres to external technical standards and regulations
The base salary range for this position in Ontario (CA-ON)at the start of employment is expected to be between $$107,000.0 and $$157,000.0 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
