What is the Opportunity?
As part of an alliance agreement Aecon Nuclear has been awarded a contract with Ontario Power Generation to support the Darlington New Nuclear Project (DNNP). Beginning of 2023 Aecon started to support with the validation phase design, procurement, early site preparation and site mobilization scope for the Construction of the Unit 1 Small Modular Reactor at the Darlington site.
Reporting to the Project Manager, this role will have an everyday interaction with the execution team supporting work within the DNNP Balance of Plant scope. The Design Delivery Lead will be responsible for coordinating the temporary work design aspects for the tunnelling scope of the project (CCW). The role will have a focus (>85%) on the underground works (shaft, traditional tunnel and TBM tunnel) and a minor focus on surface works (utilities, road, etc.).
What You'll Do Here:
- Coordinating activities of the project team and of external design firms. Guaranteeing that all temporary work drawings and work drawings are prepared according to project drawings and comply with operational team expectations.
- Preparing, in agreement with the Project Department, the work scopes for assigning the engineering services to External Consultants
- Proposing improvements, project changes or variations, preparing the technical documentation for Client approval purposes
- Reviewing the technical documents issued by the suppliers/designers
- Coordinating the necessary design activities so that all technical and administrative approvals are obtained including review by the Owner Oversight.
- Keeping registers of all changes/approvals making sure that construction drawings include them all
- Guaranteeing that the released package and shop drawings are fully coordinated and approved before execution
- Guaranteeing that geological surveys, geotechnical verifications, basic and working topographies and technical/economic management of monitoring are all carried out
- Approving, for what falls under one's area of responsibility, the technical specifications and documentation concerning the purchase of supplies and subcontracts
- Defining, collaborating with the Supervision, the methods to use to carry out the works
- Carrying out specific tasks for the role in line with the quality specifications set by the QAS Manual and corporate procedures
What You Bring to the Table:
- Post secondary education in an Engineering Civil discipline
- Minimum 5 years' experience as a Senior Technical Engineer/Coordinator in urban underground metro works or large projects
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (both oral and written) skills
- Strong Interpersonal skills in communicating with a large team
- Organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize and multi-task/Service orientated
- Thrive on a fast paced environment
