The Computer Systems Engineering department is responsible for digital instrumentation and control equipment for projects involving control, monitoring, and operator displays in the nuclear island for our existing domestic and international customers and new builds. We are responsible for digital system design, equipment selection and procurement, and all software activities.
Your role within the team:
A computer hardware technologist is required to work on the specification, and production of industrial control and display computer systems for projects involving new CANDU nuclear power plant architectures/designs and/or retrofits to existing nuclear plants and installations. This is a developmental position, and all duties will be carried out under general supervision of a Senior Computer Systems Engineer or Technical Lead, and may include the following:
- Support to engineering for the specification, purchasing, and testing of spare parts and/or replacement systems for existing obsolete computerized equipment.
- Support to engineering for the purchasing and supply of plant control, safety and display computers equipment.
- Documentation, installation, wiring, and testing of in-house facilities to support the development and testing of control, display, and safety computers systems and software.
- Maintenance and upkeep of computer / control system lab facilities, including a Main Control Room mockup.
- Update and/or prepare Computers Engineering design and procurement documents including engineering quotation requests, system descriptions, and physical/electrical drawings.
- Interface with various engineering disciplines, clients, and suppliers.
- Assist in providing responses to technical enquiries from design review teams.
- Assist in providing technical support to engineering groups at site.
- Manage assigned work effectively, including prioritizing, executing, managing schedule and budget, and reporting, to meet project goals.
- Prepare change packages for modifications to existing plant systems.
The ideal candidate:
- Technologist diploma or equivalent in a field relevant to the position.
- Demonstrate good technical skills and problem-solving capabilities, and be able to seek practical solutions to technical problems
- Demonstrate good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Background in PLC system design, testing, and troubleshooting is considered an asset.
- Experience with electronic test tools (meters, oscilloscopes) and test rig design is considered an asset.
- Experience in manufacturing and/or assembly of computerized control/display systems is considered an asset.
- Experience in the nuclear industry is considered an asset.
- Experience with design and implementation of TCP/IP networks is considered an asset.
- Working understanding of firewalls and cyber security is considered an asset.
