AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join our IT Infrastructure Operations team. This role is responsible for managing and optimizing the company's Linux environments, primarily RHEL and Oracle Linux. It focuses on core activities such as server administration, security, and performance, with an emphasis on supporting production of Linux infrastructure.
Your role
- System Installation and Configuration: Deploying and configuring Linux-based operating systems (RHEL, Oracle Linux) on servers and workstations, including setting up network parameters, storage, and security settings.
- User Management: Creating and managing user accounts, groups, and permissions to ensure secure access to the system's resources.
- Package Management: Using package managers (e.g., apt, yum, rpm, dnf) to install, update, and remove software packages on Linux systems.
- Server Maintenance: Register the servers to Satellite, patch them regularly, update the operating system and installed software to keep systems secure and up to date, perform upgrades, and apply security hardening.
- Monitoring and Performance Optimization: Monitoring system performance and resource utilization, identifying bottlenecks, and optimizing system performance for efficient operation.
- Knowledge of SCOM and ServiceNow is an asset.
- Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Diagnosing and resolving hardware and software issues that may arise in the Linux environment.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery: Implementing and managing backup solutions to ensure data integrity and creating disaster recovery plans in case of system failures.
- Security Management: Configuring and maintaining firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and other security tools to protect Linux systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats.
- Continuous Learning: Staying up to date with the latest advancements in Linux technologies and acquiring new skills to enhance system administration capabilities.
- Collaboration: Coordinating with other IT teams, developers, and stakeholders to support various projects and ensure smooth integration of Linux systems with other components.
- Documentation: Maintaining comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps for future reference.
- Availability: Be available on call as per the on-call roster including on weekends to implement planned changes OR resolve production outages. Extend shift if required to resolve production outages.
- Continuous service improvements: Initiate, own and implement service improvements including automation that can improve processes, reduce outages, incidents, make environment more stable, reduce effort required to support, minimize/mitigate risks, improve customer satisfaction etc.
About you
- Experience in supporting production Linux server infrastructure.
- Experience in configuring network interfaces, managing routing tables, and troubleshooting network-related issues.
- Shell Scripting and Automation: Writing and maintaining shell scripts and automation tools to streamline repetitive tasks and improve system efficiency. Automate routine administrative tasks using shell scripting / Ansible.
- Manage storage – LVM and file systems.
- Virtualization and Containerization: Working with virtual machines (e.g., VMware, Nutanix, KVM) and container technologies (e.g., Docker) to create, deploy, and manage applications in isolated environments.
- System Security Auditing and Compliance: Conducting security audits and ensuring Linux systems comply with relevant security standards and policies.
- Experience in Level 2 role supporting more than 300 Linux servers.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.

Security clearance
