Overview
AtkinsRéalis is one of the world's leading providers of engineering, environmental, and professional consulting services. With offices across Ireland, we are proud to deliver some of the most exciting and pivotal projects in the water, energy, and transport sectors, as well as specialist environmental projects.
Your role
Responsibilities include some or all of the following, preferably with experience of delivering these in the UK and/or Ireland (Republic of, and/or Northern):
- Hydrological analysis, including flow estimation in ungauged or data-sparse environments.
- Interpretation of hydrological and water resources information.
- Reporting and communication of hydrological and water resources issues, outcomes and recommendations.
- Programming in packages such as R and Python.
- Undertaking hydrological and hydrometric fieldwork and walkovers to assess hydrological and water resources strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats.
- Understanding and use of hydrometric monitoring techniques.
- Experience of water resources modelling, e.g. using Pywr or Aquator, or similar.
- Understanding and use of deployable output and yield analysis.
- Interpretation of hydrological datasets to determine environmental and ecological impacts.
- Knowledge of water resources planning processes.
- Water resources assessment accounting for the impacts of climate change.
- The ideal candidate will have familiarity of working with and in, and the nature of, catchments and hydrology in Ireland.
About you
- You will be a hydrologist with a water resource focus qualified to at least FETAC Level 7, preferably Level 9 or 10, and will have relevant years of work experience and likely to be chartered or have achieved Fellow status through CIWEM or another relevant professional body.
- You will have a proven track record in hydrological analysis, including flow estimation techniques in ungauged or data sparse catchments, and be able to effectively communicate the uncertainties and risks associated with these methods. As an increasing proportion of our work is undertaken in Python or R programming packages, an ability to work within these programming environments is desirable.
- Your wider experience may also include hydrometric fieldwork or an understanding of hydrometric monitoring techniques and hydrological analysis to support environmental assessment of abstraction and impounding activities. It is also desirable that you have experience of water resource modelling (e.g. Pywr or Aquator), deployable output and yield analysis.
- Knowledge of water resource planning processes would be advantageous as would water resource assessment under climate change.
- You will be highly motivated and proactive, with a confident and professional manner. You will have excellent numerical, analytical, report-writing and presentational skills and be able to demonstrate delivery of high-quality technical work within the water sector. With good interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively at all levels you will work collaboratively with the rest of the WEMC and WMC teams in Ireland and the UK, and help build high-quality client relationships.
- Experience of working for a private sector consultancy is a requirement, as is experience of undertaking business development, client engagement, proposal and tender writing and winning and delivering won work.
- You will have familiarity of working with and in, and the nature of, catchments and hydrology in Ireland.
