Design Team Lead (DTL) - Peterborough Location
We are currently recruiting for a Design Team Lead in our Systems Engineering group. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

THE CHALLENGE:
This is a unique role that provides support to various nuclear power station systems. Typical tasks include: support to design group located in the Peterborough office with different assignment execution, support of emergent issues at site, procurement engineering support, and execution of various systems engineering tasks. Support is typically related to automated refueling equipment (Fuel Handling), reactor channel inspection systems, or nuclear tooling. This is a dynamic assignment that requires interaction with many different stakeholder groups including design, maintenance, and operations and presents tremendous opportunity for career growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate the design activities for a project (or proposal) throughout its lifecycle for safety and non-safety related systems for specific application within the nuclear industry.
- Setting the technical direction for the overall project and acting as the main technical interface point to both internal and external customers.
Specific responsibilities and accountabilities include:
TECHNICAL:
- Utilize customer based Engineering Change Control (ECC) process for all station modifications.
- In depth understanding of design lifecycles for Bruce Power modifications.
- Ensure that the technical requirements and design planning are created at appropriate project stage.
- Define and manage interfaces and scope between discipline specific design areas (mechanical, I&C and software).
- Provide leadership and direction of design activities in conjunction with the technical counselors.
- Ensure that there is alignment between the project requirements / scope and customer expectations and facilitate interaction between teams to resolve issues.
- Prepare and verify Maximo enteries for a wide varity of projects
- Interface with customer stakeholders including Operations, Maintenance and Engineering staff.
- Ensure that there is sufficient evidence that technical requirements and quality requirements have been met before shipment of the product.
- Understand and utilize human performance tools for increased efficiencies.
- Prepare engineering estimates to support the engineering change control process
- Lead customer meetings and processes including Constructability/Operability/Maintainability/Safety (COMS) and Available For Service (AFS), design challenge boards, design reviews and other customer meetings.
PROCESS & PROCEDURES:
- Work efficiently within our Business Management Structure to ensure compliance of design and supply projects.
- Work within the customer’s engineering change control process to successfully deliver products for customer success.
- Determine and document project deliverables, methods and limitations.
- Conduct COMS, Design Reviews, AFS as required during the project lifecycle.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders during the entire project.
- Support the project manager and multi-functional design to manage scheduled tasks.
- Maintain systems engineering tools and best practices and educate other engineering disciplines on these.
DO YOU QUALIFY? WE ARE SEEKING:
- B.A.Sc. in Engineering.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in design engineering & engineering change control.
- Holds a current PEO license (or in process).
- Experience with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities with an emphasis on engineering change control.
- Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: mechanical, I&C, software design and manufacturing.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience.
- Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to work in a team.
- Flexibility to work remotely on short-term customer site assignment.
- Most importantly…. creative and innovative thinkers!
DESIRED QUALIFICATION
- Holds a current PMP designation (or in process of obtaining).
