Kinectrics is searching for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Fuel Channel/Reactor Engineers. The Fuel Channel/Reactor Engineers will be responsible for providing Design Engineering & Analysis, Life Cycle Management & Fitness-For- Service, Field Support for both operating and units currently being refurbished to our support our client’s requirements.
General Accountabilities
- Provide fuel channel/reactor support to clients in the nuclear sector in the areas of fuel channel design and stress analysis.
- Provide Field execution support for fuel channel & feeder replacement activities, either at site as client-augmented staff or as part of a Kinectrics support team.
- Ensure clients and supervisors are provided with timely and accurate project information and status updates.
- Assist in developing proposals for internal/external customers and communicating and coordinating contracts with outside contractors/suppliers when required.
Selection Criteria
- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or equivalent is required.
- Eligibility for PEO License is required.
- Knowledge of the CANDU™ Reactor major components and systems including fuel channels, steam generators, and feeder tubes and their degradation mechanisms and life cycle management strategies. Detailed knowledge of fuel channel design and fitness for service is an asset.
- Familiarity with various Fuel Channel replacement series (FC removal, Inspection, CTSB Conditioning, CT Install, FC Install) and associated technical specifications and reactor design drawings.
- Ability to prepare and review design, process and tooling documents (technical specifications, qualification reports, technical justification reports, etc).
- Ability to review construction records including reported measurements to ensure technical specifications are met.
- Experience with the Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) process for reporting deviations from technical specification; including creating dispositions or recommending actions necessary to disposition issues raised in NCRs.
- Familiarity with developing testing plans, technical memoranda, and engineering evaluations to address construction and design issues.
- Experience coordinating with manufacturing vendors, engineering vendors and technical experts to address technical issues.
- Willingness to work at client sites (as needed), including attaining Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) status nuclear site security clearance. Prior field experience at a CANDU™ Station is an asset, but not required. Opportunity for site rotations to be tailored to personal preference to ensure long term sustainability
- Demonstrated problem solving skills and initiative in finding engineering solutions to technical problems that challenge established schedules.
- Must be able to work in project-driven environment with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and within project constraints (schedule, cost, quality). Ability to juggle multiple priorities on tight timelines.
- Knowledge and/or experience with various QA programs (ISO 9001, Z299.1, N285.0).
- Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a technical team to perform engineering consulting services, including execution of work, analysis, and report preparation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- A self-starter driven to tackle challenging problems.
