Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact:
The Civil and Seismic Engineering Section of the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department is currently growing to respond to the needs of our nuclear portfolio including OPG, Bruce Power, and Cernavoda, among others. We are looking for highly motivated engineers to:
- Lead & perform civil engineering analysis and design for nuclear power plants.
- Perform condition and performance assessments of civil structures.
- Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
- Provide field support to multi-disciplined plant design modifications, including provision of field engineering.
- Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
- Conduct technical assessments and emergent troubleshooting/engineering to support refurbishment projects and operating unit (capital) projects.
- Interface effectively with other staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
- Stay current with developments within their field of expertise.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed:
- Must have experience in a project driven environment with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and within project constraints (time, cost, quality).
- Nuclear Refurbishment or new nuclear experience considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently
- Must have a strong attention to detail and to quality assurance requirements
- Demonstrated experience in preparation of reports, proposals, recommendations and presentations for internal and external clients.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CANDU technology, strong understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation
- Past experience in one or more CANDU refurbishment projects
- Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEO), eligible for PEO status, passion for engineering
- Strong understanding of nuclear power plant design and operation
- Expertise in one or more specific areas, e.g., structural design of steel and concrete structures, seismic engineering analysis and design and piping supports (nuclear and non-nuclear).
- Experience in the use of civil engineering codes and standards, as applied to nuclear plant and conventional plants such as CSA N287, CSA N289 and CSA N291 and other codes and standards such as NBCC and S16 and A23.
- Familiarity with structural engineering computer codes such as STAAD and ANSYS
- Good project management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
- Knowledge and implementation of client Engineering Change Control.
- Working knowledge of Nuclear Quality Assurance Standards such as N299 and CSA N286
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
- Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of station customers.
- A period of 8 years relevant experience is considered necessary.
