If you answered yes, our Pinawa, Manitoba location is looking to fill the role of Project Engineer. The role of the Project Engineer is to work in a multi-disciplinary environment providing engineering expertise to a project team(s) responsible for planning and executing decommissioning projects at Whiteshell Laboratories (WL). The incumbent must have an engineering degree (e.g., mechanical, electrical, civil) and will be working within the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Whiteshell Laboratories Project Branch (WLCP) and will liaise with other CNL subject matter experts, external contractors and consultants. Whiteshell offers a compressed work week: Monday to Thursday (40 hours per week) Enjoy a long weekend, every weekend!
What will you be doing?
- Assisting in developing and accepting responsibility for project work packages involving design, construction, commissioning, and facility decommissioning activities.
- Providing technical direction to support WLCP projects.
- Preparing and reviewing technical work scopes and specifications.
- Identifying, assessing and initiating changes to approved design and construction work scope.
- Assessing equipment selection options and providing recommendations.
- Proactively supporting and implementing the project quality assurance plan.
- Conducting field walk downs to verify design parameters, construction progress and operational readiness.
- Provide well developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Representing CNL in a professional capacity and liaise with external design consultants and contractors.
- Maintaining confidentiality in all matters.
- Maintaining and growing knowledge including industry best practices and pending changes in legislation.
- Participating and maintaining up to date, all safety and operational training offered through the company.
- Assuming personal responsibility and is accountable for maintaining current skills, professional development and professional certifications by attending all training required by the site.
- Sharing learned knowledge and skills with peers.
- Identifying and reporting any real or potential safety hazards; wearing all safety equipment related to your position as well as participating in all safety-training offered through the facility.
- Adhering to Workplace Safety and Health procedures; WHIMIS program; keeping current with practices; working in a prudent and safe manner and informing other employees if they are using unsafe work practices or equipment.
- Other related duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:

- Use knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in design, construction and commissioning processes.
- Work to tight timelines and support the Whiteshell site wide decommissioning plan and schedule.
- Use excellent computer skills, including document preparation and an understanding of CADD.
- Use well-developed verbal and written communication skills; able to persuade and influence others; able to build consensus.
- Practice excellent integrity, respect of confidences, open, be credible and sincere.
- Be effective at building relationships. Strong interpersonal skills such as ability to get along well with peers and management. A very good team player.

- Demonstrate efficient organization, planning, time management, detail orientation and prioritization.
- Seek common goals, partner and collaborate with project teams and operational teams.
- Interact with managers and directors to solicit advice and to promote implementation strategies.
- Use initiative and judgement to organize and maintain flow of work and accuracy of records.
- Be highly motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Work extended hours and off normal work shifts to support project needs.
Experience:
- A minimum of five (5) years' engineering experience.
- Eligible for membership in a provincial engineering association (e.g., APEGM)
Education:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or applied science from a university of recognized standing.
Security Eligibility Requirement:
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC) which has a minimum requirement of three (3) years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security”.
