Field Operations Supervisor (Public Transit / Transportation)

ProTrans BC Operations Ltd., a subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis, is the private operator of the Canada Line, a 19-km automated rail-based rapid transit system connecting Downtown Vancouver with central Richmond and the Vancouver International Airport. Our fleet of trains provide a 26-minute terminus-to-terminus service to an average weekday ridership of more than 120,000 passengers across 16 stations. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Field Operations Supervisor leads a team of public facing, front-line Canada Line Attendants. The Field Operations Supervisor is responsible for the safety of their team and the travelling public, while monitoring performance against quality standards to increase the Canada Line’s reputation as a high-quality service provider. The Field Operations Supervisor also manages attendants’ performance and competency, identifies opportunities for improvement, and provides coaching and feedback.
This position is safety critical. Fitness for duty is a requirement of the position.
This role will be based in Richmond, BC (Onsite Work)
Your role within the team:
- Participates in the recruitment, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
- Ensures all training and competencies are maintained and up to date.
- Ensures effective deployment of employees to meet operational requirements.
- Ensures employees are Fit for Duty to safely undertake the demands of their job.
- Provides mediation and conflict resolution between employees and/or the public.
- Support employees during challenging public interactions which may include incidents associated with the unhoused, mental health illnesses and addiction.
- Acts as the first line of contact for guidance around company policy and procedure.
- Promotes teamwork towards a common goal.
- Performs operational duties on trains and at stations, including manual train operations during emergencies and crowd management.
- Liaise with police and first responders during critical incidents and provides follow up support to affected employees.
- Assists and provides feedback to the Operations Manager in the development of Company policies, procedures, and programs.
- Works on the continuous improvement of customer service and safety for the benefit of the customer, business and third-party contractor.
- Supports the Operations Manager in the handling of customer complaints and inquiries.
- Supports safety objectives as directed by Operations Manager or Company delegates.
- Monitors employee attendance in accordance with the policies and procedures set forth in the Company’s Attendance Management Program.
- Manages routine overtime requirements and staffing levels to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
- Other duties as assigned.
Safety Responsibilities:
- Acts as point of contact and participates in investigating incidents, accidents and service. delays, providing appropriate reports and recommending remedial action where necessary and following thorough remedial actions to completion. Represent PROTRANS BC on joint enquiries where required.
- Ensures Canada Line train operations are conducted safely and in compliance with standards.
- Responsible for the health and safety of all Canada Line Attendants.
- Ensure that stations are safe and available for service.
- Coordinate the site response to operational incidents and accidents.
Environmental aspects:
- This role has no Significant Environmental Aspects associated with it, but the incumbent is expected to follow Company Policy relative to all matters pertaining to the environment. Also, in the Supervisory role, they are expected to ensure their team is also following the Company Environmental Policy.

- Expected compensation for this role is between Pay Range $89,000 - $98,000 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
The ideal candidate:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a leadership, supervisory, or management position is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in high-volume public service work.
- Management or supervisory experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- Experience in rail-based operations is an asset.
- High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Exceptional customer service, conflict resolution, de-escalation skills.
- Experience with a marginalized and/or culturally diverse population.
- Experience working in the unhoused, mental health and/or addictions fields is an asset.
- Ability to work under pressure in a potentially stressful environment, maintaining effectiveness and self-control.
- Strong leadership skills, able to manage a team of employees, provide direction in terms of work planning and workforce deployment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 (Word / Excel / PowerPoint / Outlook).
- A second language that is relevant to the surrounding areas of Canada Line’s is an asset.
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements of the job.
- Must have a current Class 5 BC driver’s license.
- Ability to work various shifts including weekends as well as working outdoors in all types of weather and is prepared to support a 24/7 operation.
- A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
