The Role
The I&C Programmer is part of the technical services department reporting into the Chief Engineer, Electrical & Instrumentation and will be responsible for coordinating control system programming in alignment with Technical Services (TS) project designs.
In this role, you will:
- Clarify control strategies to support the development of control philosophies
- Assist in developing information required to configure non-PLC/DCS components such as gateways, smart MCC/electrical equipment, etc.
- Ensure control system designs meet Cameco’s ICS Security Standard
- Coordinate control system changes with the Site Control System teams and Field Programmer resources
- Develop the preliminary program (skeleton code) prior to Field Programmer handover
- Contribute to developing and maintaining Cameco programming guidelines and assist the Field Programmer in adhering to the Cameco programming guidelines
- Review/approve project PLC/DCS & other coding and configurations in consultation with the Site Control System team
- Understand the project goals and design in sufficient detail to support the Commissioning Start Up (CSU) team
- Coordinate closely with the CSU team to assist in identifying resourcing requirements
- Support site programming teams as required Travel to site to support programming implementation when required
Required:
- Instrumentation Engineering Technology (Diploma) with 12 or more years of experience in similar roles
- Or a bachelor’s degree in engineering with three to five years of directly applicable experience
- Extensive industrial control system programming and configuration experienceAn equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Recommended:
- Highly experienced with PLC programming preferably with Schneider PLCs and Control Expert
- Highly experienced with DCS configuration and programming preferably with DeltaV systems and/or EcoStruxure Foxboro DCS systems, historians and configuring connections to OSI PI via OPC
- Expert knowledge of industrial instrumentation and industrial data protocols with focus on Modbus TCP/IP and HART. Familiarity with additional industrial data protocols such as RS-485, Ethernet TCP/IP and BACnet is an asset
- Extensive experience with industrial networking, such as configuration of switches, firewalls, and other related hardware
- Strong understanding and adherence to Cameco’s cybersecurity standards
- Experience in Windows server administration including creating and maintaining Virtual Machines in Hyper-V is preferred
- Experience in reading, interpreting, understanding and updating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Control System Block Diagrams and other engineering drawings related to configuring the control system components
