The Role
Cameco’s Exploration team is seeking enthusiastic geologists to lead and support its activities on greenfields and brownfields projects in order to achieve discoveries under its long-term exploration framework.
In support of Cameco’s exploration projects, you will be leading the execution of exploration drill programs in northern Saskatchewan in search for the next world-class uranium deposit.
This is a permanent full-time staff position based in Saskatoon.
In this role, you will:
- Be responsible for the planning and execution of cost-effective greenfields/brownfields exploration programs, both in an office and field environment
- Lead a collaborative project team towards discovery through the identification and ranking of exploration targets on assigned projects, and development of project execution plans to assess areas with strong exploration potential
- Be accountable for the quality of the technical accuracy and execution of exploration projects, while incorporating guidelines from exploration management and other technical experts within the department, moving toward the discovery of economic deposits
- Supervise project staff and contractors, providing coaching and mentorship to junior personnel in making critical observations and interpretations that lead to collaborative targeting decisions
- Analyze the results of drilling and other geological information to develop geologic interpretations and models, perform geoscientific compilation work, and write technical reports
- Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the project(s) managed and its broader regional geology
- Effectively communicate technical results to variety of audiences (i.e. Exploration management, Joint Venture partners)
- Be committed to developing a strong safety and environment culture, promoting it through Cameco’s safety, health, environment, and quality (SHEQ) management systems
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in geology or geological engineering
- You must be eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- At least seven years of relevant work in mineral exploration of hydrothermal systems
- Ability to work in remote locations
- Digital literacy with various office and geological software programs (i.e. ArcGIS Pro, Leapfrog, Acquire, Microsoft Office)
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and analytical skills Willingness to work in a team environment
Recommended:
- First Aid, ATV, watercraft, and/or snowmobile training
- GIS and 3D geological modelling proficiency
- Graduate degree in geology
- Previous uranium exploration or mining experience
