What you will do:
In this role, you will contribute directly to work that supports AECL’s commitment to transparency, accountability, while ensuring the appropriate protection of sensitive and personal information.
We’re looking for a Senior Manager, ATIP (ATIP Coordinator), who brings sound judgment, discretion, and a strong understanding of federal access to information and privacy requirements.
Reporting to the General Counsel & Corporate Secretary, you’ll serve as a key leader in administering the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act on behalf of AECL. You’ll provide expert advice, manage the organization’s legal obligations, and develop and implement effective policies, guidelines, systems, procedures, and training.
This is a unique opportunity to work across the organization and with federal departments, agencies, regulatory bodies, requesters, legal representatives, and other external parties. You will manage and process from start to finish complex requests, including consultations, investigations and complaints. Exercising delegated authority under both Acts, you will make decisions regarding the disclosure and protections of information , and provide strategic advice and guidance to management and employees on legislative compliance, privacy protection and information management practices.

What you bring:

- Degree in public administration, law, or a related field. An advanced degree in one of these fields is considered an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of the Access to Information Act and the Privacy Act, including relevant decisions of the Information and Privacy Commissioners and Federal Court and Supreme Court jurisprudence.
- Must be bilingual in English and French (spoken and written).
- Strong judgment, discretion, attention to detail, negotiation, critical thinking, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience developing and implementing policies, procedures, processes, guidance, and training related to access to information and privacy.
- Knowledge of Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat policies, public administration principles, and the federal government environment is considered an asset.
- Experience using ATIP case management software (e.g., ATIPXpress or equivalent) to manage requests, consultations, complaints, and reporting activities.

- The hiring range for this role is between $138,800 and $173,400 based on compensable factors such as qualifications and experience.
- The full salary range for this role is broader than the hiring range. Employees progress through the salary scale over time in accordance with AECL’s compensation philosophy and procedures.

What you can expect:
- Location: This role can be based out Chalk River, Ontario or Ottawa office locations.
- Chalk River Commute: If you will be working at our Chalk River office, you will need your own personal transportation. There is no public transit to the site.
- Hybrid Work Model: AECL follows a hybrid work approach. On-site presence is required four days per week (Monday to Thursday) to support operational needs and role responsibilities.
- Security Clearance: The selected candidate must successfully meet Government of Canada security clearance requirements (Top Secret - Level III)
