Job Opportunity - Welder/Millwright
The main function of this role is to weld a range of components from the Celeros FT product portfolio using a variety of welding techniques including GTAW, FCAW, and SMAW to pressure retaining equipment specified drawings, standard operation procedures, data sheets, and other technical information. Material sizes and thicknesses will vary and will include stainless steel castings, forgings, and piping. The welder is expected to work in safe manner and adhere to all health, safety & environmental policy, and procedures, whilst being totally responsible for the quality of their work. The Welder will work efficiently using specified welding techniques and equipment, with an aim to achieve the standard times allocated against each operation. The role involves a high level of flexibility across functional disciplines.
Another function of this role is the inspection and repair of API classification pumps.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Using a variety of welding techniques, produce components that comply with engineering drawings and other supporting documents.
- GTAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding
- Be responsible for the quality of own work, including the visual inspection of welds and recording heat numbers of both components & consumables.
- inspection and repair of API classification pumps
- Read and interpret complex drawings and work instructions
- Complete high tolerance fitting operations including balancing, leveling, aligning motors, bearings, shafts, impellers and pump cases
- Bending, fitting, tack welding and testing complex piping and tubing configurations
- Detect potential problems in fit and function and work with design engineering to implement corrections
- Able to fault find and complete detailed inspection and repair processes on API style rotating equipment particularly centrifugal and reciprocating pumps
- Completion of pump rebuild and testing fits and measurements
- Completion of detailed inspection and build records
- Completion of in field work scopes at customer sites as required.
- Ensure any issues related to the quality of components or equipment are reported immediately to line management
- Accurately record times taken against each operation and feedback standard time variances to the welding shop supervisor.
- Sign off production orders with relevant information to ensure compliance within the ISO 9001 quality management system.
- Follow all health, safety & environmental policy & procedures to ensure the company upholds and exceeds its legal responsibilities.
- Maintain a clean working area adhering to all housekeeping requirements as specified by your line manager.
- Use initiative and propose ideas to improve quality, productivity, and cost performance.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Able to interpret engineering documentation

- Good understanding of health & safety in a factory environment
- Must be a team player with good communication skills
- Good organisational and planning skills
- Self-motivated, show initiative and able to operate independently as well as in a team
- Be able to use overhead gantry cranes and jibs (training can be provided)
- Completion of recognized apprenticeship of Industrial Millwright or equivalent.
- Understanding of industry safety and health standards and practices.
- Ability to read, interpret and follow complex engineering drawings including understanding of geometric tolerances, fit/function requirements and industry specifications.
- Interpersonal skills required to work with other trades and engineering personnel to resolve issues such as quality and performance characteristics.
- Knowledge of basic computer software such as Microsoft Windows Office to maintain records, log data and obtain product information.
- Personal Toolbox required – Company will provide special tools and test equipment
Education and Experience
- 3-5 years of experience as a welder in the pressure vessel industry is essential.
- 3-5 years’ experience in the building, repair, and/or maintenance of rotating equipment, a large majority of these being API classification rotating equipment
- Should be able to read and understand engineering documentation
- GTAW, FCAW, and SMAW ABSA certified
