About Us
Rabbit Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, produced over 200 million pounds of uranium concentrate from 1975 through 2016 and is currently in a safe state of care and maintenance. The uranium mined and milled at Rabbit Lake has been used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.
The Role
Cameco is looking for a dedicated professional to coordinate and lead environmental protection and related program activities at the Rabbit Lake operation. Working with a committed environment team, you will oversee an extensive monitoring program and will ensure required sampling is conducted, data compiled and analysed, and results reported to regulatory agencies and other key stakeholders in accordance with applicable regulations and operating approvals. Through engagement with other departments and contractors, you will facilitate environmental inspections and audits, provide timely reporting and responses to regulatory agencies, and develop and implement corrective actions to address findings. Other responsibilities include oversight and maintenance of the waste management program, wildlife management, the ISO 14001 certified environmental management system, and developing, leading or supporting initiatives to improve the overall environmental performance of the operation. You will also maintain emergency preparedness and response plans related to environmental incidents or events and will guide response activities in the event of an environmental emergency.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the environment team and support to other departments
- Coach and develop team members to achieve results
- Oversee and coordinate monitoring and reporting activities to ensure regulatory compliance and expected environmental performance
- Lead or participate in various initiatives, projects and studies
- Facilitate environmental regulatory inspections and audits
- Collaborate with cross functional project and support teams
- Coordinate and oversee various contractors and environmental consultants
- Act as Environmental Management Representative and promote ISO 14001 conformance.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering, or a related field
- Ten years of related experience with five years in a supervisory capacity
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience considered
- Familiarity with applicable federal and provincial environmental regulations
- Experience with ISO 14001 and/or related management systems
- Work a flexible site-based schedule and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Relevant experience in the mining and/or nuclear industry
- Meet requirements of a qualified person for applicable activities under the Saskatchewan Environmental Code
- Emergency response/mine rescue experience/certification or willingness to obtain
- Proficient in CIRS, ISNet, Microsoft Office, and/or environmental database software

The Rabbit Lake operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
