CANDU Energy Inc., is looking for a Specialist Radiation Physicist to be a part of our team in the Fuel and Physics department supporting the design of new nuclear power plants and the operation, refurbishment, or waste management and decommissioning of existing CANDU nuclear power plants.
Your role within the team:
- Plan, perform, document, review, verify, and/or supervise technical analyses including the application of radiation transport codes, performing dose calculations, and/or application / development of activity transport models.
- Lead teams in the execution of tasks for defined scopes of work adhering to schedule and budget constraints.
- Represent the organization in discussions with clients and partner organizations, and collaborate with academic institutions, presenting results/updates to internal and/or external stakeholders.
- Develop, adapt, or modify computer codes for specific applications and to solve new problems, create and evaluate models or methodologies related to radiation physics and collate, assimilate, and summarize results from existing analyses.
- Mentor and train to develop junior staff in various areas of expertise related to radiation physics.
- Follow the relevant procedures, guidelines and standards governing the work being performed. Attend and participate in meetings at the office, remotely, or at client sites as needed.

The ideal candidate:
- Masters or Ph.D. degree in Physics, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Engineering, and Registered Professional Engineer in Ontario (or in progress to attain).
- 15+ years of relevant experience performing neutronics, radiation transport, dose, activity transport and/or dispersion model calculations or 10 years of experience with an advanced degree.
- Expertise with the computer codes MCNP, SCALE/ORIGEN, or ADDAM (equivalent codes acceptable, ability to program especially in python, PERL, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran and proficient in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with the Linux operating system.
- Working knowledge of work processes, and associated technologies. Eligible to obtain license for nuclear software that falls under the US Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 radiation physics codes, such as MCNP and SCALE.
- Conversant in the codes and Standards used in safety analysis.
- Ability to program especially in python, MATLAB, C++, or Fortran and familiarity with the Linux operating system.
- Eligible to obtain license for nuclear software that falls under the US Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810 radiation physics codes, such as MCNP and SCALE.
- Experience with rehabilitation and decommissioning activities and supporting station operations.
- Experience working at a nuclear facility, performing radiation transport and shielding calculations, and code development including source control and testing.
- Knowledge of the nuclear regulatory framework, along with codes and standards applicable for nuclear work in Canada
