The NICCS is situated in the newly commissioned Cyber Centre located within the Fredericton’s Knowledge Park business cluster. The Cyber Centre is a world-class secure facility designed to encourage collaboration with industry leaders and academic research for thought leadership in the development and maintenance of critical systems. At the heart of the NICCS is a state of the art cyber range containing representative hardware and software used in nuclear power plants and other critical infrastructure connected to a full-scope CANDU-6 simulator. The cyber range is a sophisticated platform for conducting evidence-based research and supports the assessments of tools and processes that improve the security of our industrial control systems. These systems have unique characteristics that differentiate themselves from typical IT and other commercial networks. Results from this research will be used to provide guidance to both regulators and industry on effectively meeting newly revised and released cyber security standards.
