** This role is based in Pinawa, Manitoba**
Our Whiteshell (WL) location is looking for a Manager, Commissioning and Project Engineering to join our team! Can you see yourself overseeing and providing day to day supervision of the commissioning and project engineering activities and staff while incorporating high quality, safety, excellent customer value, and alignment with CNL goals? What will you be doing!
- Managing Commissioning and Project Engineering resources to effectively provide high value commissioning and project engineering services to customers.
- Providing oversight of all assigned projects and ensuring on-time and on-budget delivery according to customer- approved plans.
- Ensuring that all commissioning and project engineering work is planned and carried out.
- Evaluating employee performance and collaborating with employees to identify individual career and performance development opportunities.
- Participating in formulating strategy, plans and goals affecting the Project Engineering Division.
- Assessing team and organizational performance and providing recommendations for improvement.
- Ensuring all commissioning and project engineering activities are planned in accordance with the Annual Plan of Work and Budget and escalating recommended changes.
- Managing and sharing resources amongst the various Engineering Branches with a long- term view to the overall success of Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL).
- Reporting schedule and budget performance of commissioning and project engineering activities.
- Promoting engineering services to internal CNL customers and identifying opportunities to provide services to external customers to the Director, Project Engineering,
- Encouraging staff to be customer-focused, improve process safety, efficiency and effectiveness throughout CNL.
- Demonstrating and promoting a leadership style that supports the core values and strategic direction of CNL.
- Promoting culture and work ethics that allow staff to respond positively to a continuously changing work environment.
- Providing technical guidance and seeking out appropriate technical resources to provide consultation and guidance for other fields in which the staff are working.
- Participating in and promoting activities that lead to increased alignment of engineering services across CNL.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering/science or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience
- Eligible for membership in a provincial engineering association (e.g., APEGM)
- Five (5) to ten years' experience managing or supervising multi-disciplinary teams providing commissioning and project engineering services.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with staff and customers covering a variety of backgrounds and functions.
- High motivation to foster staff development and continuously improve processes, procedures, customer value, and quality.
- Knowledge of commissioning, and engineering, codes, standards and jurisdictional requirements in their field of expertise and their application (e.g. Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, National Building Code of Canada, Canadian Electrical Code, Manitoba Electrical Safety Code, etc.).
- Demonstrated knowledge of project management, commissioning, design processes, and configuration management.
- Be highly self-disciplined and perform well under sustained pressure.
- Have excellent management and organizational ability and team-building and consensus-reaching skills.
- Process complex information, quickly assimilate new data/subjects, and make timely and risk-informed decisions.
- Demonstrate political savvy and to use considerable judgment when considering the impact of decisions on the scope, quality, cost, and schedule, of the project.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Work is generally in an office environment with repetitive tasks, such as computer and phone use.
- Travel may be required for customer visits, committee and workgroup participation, specialized training and conferences.
- We have a compressed work week, which consists of a four-day work week and ten hours a day - starting at 6 am.
