The Incumbent will Manage all Quality Assurance activities for bids, project and R&D projects. Will also be responsible for ensuring that work performed through all phases of the project life cycle meets contractual and rail-signaling regulatory requirements, and internal quality processes, within budget and on schedule while improving Customer Satisfaction and operational maturity. Will also manage a team of product and project software and hardware Quality Assurance Managers (QAMs), while being responsible as a QAM on assigned projects; the QAMs guarantee product/ project quality and ensure that the level of quality provides value and satisfaction to customers. Will also be required to manage the technical direction of the Quality Assurance staff, motivates, trains and appraises employee's performance and acts as a mentor to assigned staff. Responsible for effectiveness of staff planning, competency, management, and workload & workforce management to ensure project commitments are delivered and customers are satisfied while supporting employee growth and Implements process improvements by creative problem-solving to improve process lead-times, project efficiency, and reduce cost of non-quality.
Key Accountabilities: The Incumbent Manager Quality Assurance will be responsible to create a Performance Driven organization and Culture. They will assess, measure and reward accountability and efficiency. Being part of a broader Leadership team, the Manager will continue to develop and improve our key talent and will ensure SMART and quantitative objectives are set therefore responsible for engaging and actioning on all elements of the HR Cycle including Talent Review, Succession Planning, Professional Development Discussion and Training initiatives within their teams. Managers are accountable to ensure all actions from these performance driven activities are developed and progressed. As part of their key function, they will also be responsible to ensure consistency between work demand and capacity within their portfolio through smart task assignments. They will continue to drive the ONE TEAM spirit within the Urban Rail Signaling domain, will manage team growth and address labor forecast challenges.
- Set quality function objectives in alignment with organizational goals and inspire employees to achieve these objectives by coaching and monitoring KPIs. Proactively adjust actions to ensure business and people success.
- As a Manager, serve as a role model and change agent to deliver "First-Time Right" quality across the organization. Influence and communicate at all levels to ensure individual and team commitment to sustaining a quality-first culture.
- As a Quality Assurance Manager (QAM), contribute to bids, projects, and products by ensuring their quality and coaching/supporting the relevant operational teams in executing activities in accordance with relevant processes, risk, and opportunity management. Always keep the customer's perspective in mind to ensure that bids, projects, and product deliveries meet technical and non-technical requirements and customer satisfaction expectations.
- Ensure that activities performed throughout all phases of the project lifecycle by engineering, safety, deployment, and support teams comply with contractual requirements and internal quality processes, while improving competitiveness.
- Analyze customer and Hitachi Rail quality requirements, define and implement the Quality Plan, and produce Quality Advice in the Bid and Project phases.
- Ensure that Quality Plans and Quality Management Reports comply with relevant CENELEC standards, internal QMS, and customer requirements.
- Generate insights from data resulting from assessments, audits, customer surveys, and complaints. Utilize alert and veto rights to ensure proper reporting for decision-making and proactive risk management.
- Contribute to bid and project gate reviews, support and verify the tailoring of process activities in project plans to reduce the cost of non-quality while ensuring solution compliance for competitiveness.
- Efficiently support multiple projects with different schedules and deadlines, even with limited resource constraints.
- Develop the competencies of QAMs to continually improve solution competitiveness and support employee growth.
Key Requirements - Minimum B.S Computer Science / Electrical / Mechanical / Electronics /Computer Engineering or equivalent
- 10+ years of hands-on experience in Engineering (or) Quality Assurance in technology and regulatory focused
industries (Rail, Aerospace, Space, Nuclear, Defense, or Medical Devices, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience as a Quality Assurance Engineer (or) Manager
- 5+ years of experience managing small to medium sized teams (hierarchical, cross-functional, project mode, etc.)
- 5+ years of experience in fostering First Time Right quality culture, and performing/facilitating business process improvements; Value Stream Mapping, Lessons Learned, Benchmarking, Auditing and reporting
- Must have Quality Experience (Quality Assurance, Quality Management System, Customer Satisfaction, Continuous Improvement, Organization & Governance)
- Management experience of multidisciplinary product and project QAM teams including project scheduling, risk management, resource management, scope management, budgeting, KPIs tracking and reporting
- Ability to conduct investigations and Root Cause Analysis across multiple disciplines (System, Software, Hardware, V&V, Supply chain, PMO....) for corrective and preventative measures, and lessons learned.
- Excellent creative problem solving, written, verbal, active listening and design thinking skills
- Operational/discipline experience (Project Management, Engineering, Industry, Supply chain, Services)
- Experience in technical solutions (or) delivery services, particularly in managing complex programs
Preferred Qualifications: - Hands-on Engineering System/Software/Hardware development or Quality Assurance in complex safety-critical
systems environment with regulatory certification constraints (Transportation, Aerospace, Space, Medical Devices,
Nuclear, Cybersecurity)
- Knowledge of Transportation domain / Rail Signaling CBTC system is an asset
- Digital Quality mindset is an asset; Power BI, integrating Gen AI into Quality workflows, Prompting GPTs, Python, etc.
- Certification in related disciplines such as Lean, Six Sigma, CMMI, Quality auditing, ASQ Certification (CQE, CQA...)
- Technical/Specialized Knowledge: Industry Standards: ISO 9001, CENELEC EN50128, EN50716, EN50126, EN 50129, DO-178C, ISO 13485
- Product Lifecycle- System/Software/Hardware development
- Project Lifecycle and Deployment
