As a member of our Roads & Utilities Group in the Engineering, Design and Project Management Division for Central Canada, you will be working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment, primarily working on major Transit Rail project. As a Civil Engineering Specialist, in addition to the civil design, you will have exposure to utilities, road, structural, traffic, environmental, geotechnical, foundations, geomatics, rail and electrical design during the course of our design assignments. You will be overseeing and managing delivery of projects related to civil engineering from conception to detailed design, tendering and construction.
Your role within the team
To perform this role successfully, the individual will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Develop detailed civil engineering designs, drawings and analysis for the civil infrastructure including earthworks, grading, roadworks, drainage etc. from preliminary concepts, specifications, bid documents, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications for the projects.
- Prepare calculations, technical reports, Plans, profiles and cross-sections, presentations for the contract packages in collaboration with multi-discipline teams, construction staff and clients.
- Lead project teams consisting of engineers, engineering interns and CAD technicians in the planning, execution, and management of civil, property and drainage design packages.
- Lead the design packages delivery ensuring QA/QC, compliance, and managing project resources, budgets and timelines.
- Communication and stakeholder management including making presentations to the clients, authorities, and management to present designs, proposals, and address their needs and concerns.
- Support project managers with proposal writing, business development, and client-based support.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to team members.

The ideal candidate
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from a recognized institution. Licensed Ontario Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
- 8-10 years of demonstrated experience in Civil Engineering design and project engineering in site civil works, stormwater drainage, structures, earthworks, and grading including preliminary and detailed design, drawings, cost estimate, specifications, and contract documents.
- Prior experience of working on Transit Rail projects would be an asset. Strong familiarity with civil, rail, transportation and drainage design standards and guidelines in Ontario and familiarity with municipal and provincial clients and approving agencies.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroStation, InRoads/OpenRoads, MS Project.
- Valid Driver’s License is required.
