The Role:
We are on the hunt for a Systems Engineer (SE) – Ship Integration, at our Halifax, NS, Canada office, who wants to be a part of the next generation of Geointelligence missions. Working together with other experienced engineering staff, technicians, and many others, the SE-UAS will support UAS program delivery and other initiatives as needed, as part of the broader Geointelligence Engineering team spanning across Canada.
MDA is the prime contractor of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Uncrewed Aircraft System (UAS) program and is responsible for the acquisition and in-service support of a UAS, also known as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft System (RPAS).
As a Systems Engineer (SE) – Ship Integration, you will be part of an experienced team responsible for the delivery and support of UAS capabilities to the customer. You will be working with sensitive information and systems and are expected to complete all tasks and responsibilities with the highest degree of professionalism and integrity.
Job Responsibilities:
As a Systems Engineer (SE) – Ship Integration, you will have a wide range of responsibilities that include but are not limited to:
• Be a member on a multi-disciplinary geographically dispersed team through the procurement, development and implementation phases of a complex UAS project.
• Support the design of engineering change specifications for a ship which are necessary to operate a UAS from the ship.
• Support the shipboard installation planning, installation preparation, installation, and associated quality assurance checks.
• Produce and maintain technical artefacts such as an engineering change guidance package, and an installation and set-to-work manual.
• Execute multiple technical work packages from definition through to final acceptance.
• Work with internal / external stakeholders, e.g. sub-contractors and customers, from a technical perspective.
• Travel domestically and/or internationally as needed.
Required Experience / Capabilities:
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aeronautical engineering, software engineering, or simular education / specialty relevant to the duties of the position.
• 5+ years of experience working in an engineering or technical environment or relevant post graduate degree.
• Able to work independently for all technical integration work and represent the company / project with external parties.
• Producing and/or working with technical artefacts such as engineering drawings and interface control documents.
• Designing modifications to a ship to support the installation of mechanical and electrical equipment, or equivalent.
• Exceptional problem-solving, planning, organizing and processing skills.
• Maintaining good working relationships with technical staff and customer representatives.
• Ensuring quality standards and contractual requirements are met.
• Adaptable to changing job responsibilities and project requirements.
• Ability to work with and uphold classified information.
• Self-motivated, resourceful, and adaptive to new challenges.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-starter with the ability to perform in a dynamic working environment.
• Have a team-friendly attitude and desire to learn and improve.
• Highly proficient with MS Office applications (e.g. MS Word, Excel, PPT, Visio).
• Ability and willingness to learn operation of ERP systems and QA software systems.
• Able to engage in continuous learning / training as required to perform additional duties.
Desired Experience / Capabilities:
• Working with sub-contractors and suppliers on complex technical initiatives.
• Experience with UASs and their payloads (will also consider experience with human piloted aircraft systems).
• Experience in the maritime and/or naval domain.
• Delivering in-service support of operational marine assets.
• Delivering projects in a defence sector.
• Previous military/civilian operational experience and deployed experience.
Comments/Special Considerations:
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the Secret level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
