Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The Role
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, Maintenance, in the maintenance engineering group, your advanced knowledge of mechanical equipment and design will be relied upon to support surface and underground operations. You will be required to solve complex technical problems using formal techniques to evaluate systems, equipment, and failures. Your efforts will maximize equipment availability, reliability, and performance through effective problem solving, root cause analysis, and proactive maintenance practices. You will be expected to provide mentorship to junior engineering personnel and may be expected to coordinate work assignments and provide group leadership in the absence of the Chief Engineer.
In this role, you will:
- Solve complex technical problems using formal techniques to evaluate systems, equipment, and failures.
- Ensure that design work is prepared in accordance with Cameco’s processes, procedures, standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and refine asset-specific strategies to improve equipment health and prevent or eliminate equipment failure.
- Work regularly with trades personnel and their leadership to support short- and long-term maintenance activities.
- Provide technical support for new or modified site equipment, process changes, and drawings.
- Compile data and prepare technical reports or coordinate technical reporting as required for regulatory submission.
- Support site capital and expense projects, ensuring project deliverables are met in terms of scope, schedule, and budget.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or industrial engineering;
- seven to 12 years of relevant industry experience;
- equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
- eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS);
- strong communication and problem-solving skills; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- familiarity with predictive maintenance techniques and technologies;
- experience in mining, mills, process plants, and underground environments;
- experience using computerized maintenance management systems, preferably SAP; and
- knowledge of rotating equipment, pressure vessels, atmospheric tanks, ASME B31.3 code, API tank code, welding standards, and CSA B51 code.

The Cigar Lake operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a two week on/two week off rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
