We are currently recruiting for a Senior Project Manager - Field Services to be stationed at our customer sites at Darlington and Pickering, Ontario.
JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Construction & Major Projects Director, this role manages the overall technical, cost and schedule requirements on assigned contracts and customer interface to ensure the company’s resources are properly directed for satisfactory contract execution. Leads large complex teams including outside partners or subcontractors. Interfaces with customer for the exchange of information and the resolution of contract disputes. Regularly reports project progress to senior management and/or the customer. May mentor junior Project Managers.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- For medium and large sized projects; or large projects consisting of multiple contracts or some elements of first-of-a-kind (FOAK) (with significant risk); may manage new product lines outside of Master Service Agreements.
- Responsible for all project phases including proposal, pre-deployment, execution and close out.
General Responsibilities
- Analyze the requirements with the customer, determine the strategy for the proposal, and develop the execution plan for the project.
- Lead teams comprised of engineering, nuclear engineering, project planners/cost estimators, QA/QC and field operations at nuclear utilities.
- Provide effective leadership through communicating expectations and instilling accountability.
- Direct the overall technical, cost and schedule requirements on assigned contracts, including engineering and field services.
Proposal Phase
- The proposal phase involves identifying opportunities, developing strategies, reviewing customer requirements, leading the proposal team, developing the proposal package, conducting reviews, delivering the package to the customer, and being the point of contact for questions.
- Key steps include calling a kickoff meeting, preparing a proposal plan and schedule, developing the proposal solution and pricing, conducting internal reviews, holding challenge sessions, finalizing the package, and delivering it to the customer.
- The goal is to secure new work by developing a winning proposal that meets customer requirements with a competitive solution and pricing.
- This phase involves collaboration across multiple teams - legal, commercial, engineering, operations - to develop the proposal.
Pre-Deployment Phase
- Call and lead the project kick off meeting to align all stakeholders and establish project governance.
- Prepare and manage the pre-deployment schedule and budget to forecast work effort, costs, and resource needs.
- Review and approve project deliverables to ensure they meet requirements before deployment.
- Regularly update the customer on schedule and cost performance using SPI and CPI metrics.
Execution Phase
- Lead project governance activities - conduct field readiness review, update customer on performance, manage change process.
- Manage project execution - prepare schedule and budget, review deliverables, lead team to resolve issues.
- Manage project financials - manage billing and charges collection.
Close Out Phase
- Finalize project delivery - Review and approve final deliverables, update customer on performance, manage any last-minute changes.
- Close out project - Conduct lessons learned, ensure contractual close out requirements are met, finalize billing and invoicing.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in Engineering or equivalent along with 15 years related experience.
- In-depth understanding of nuclear engineering principles, nuclear reactor operations, nuclear safety, radiation protection, etc.
- Experience managing large, complex nuclear projects related to plant construction, maintenance, decommissioning, waste management, etc.
- Knowledge of nuclear regulations, codes, and compliance requirements.
- Strong leadership and people management skills to coordinate large teams.
- Ability to manage budgets, schedules, risks, and technical complexities.
- Knowledge in nuclear quality assurance principles and procedures.
- Experience coordinating with regulatory bodies and oversight organizations.
- Experience managing construction trades on nuclear construction projects.
- Knowledge of contracting, procurement, and supply chain issues specific to the nuclear industry.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $100,000 and $156,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
