INTRO
The purpose of this position is to procure and maintain the data and telephone network infrastructure. This position is essential to ensure the reliable delivery of data and telephone services to the entire organization. This position will report directly to the Networks Team Lead
DUTIES
- Provides expertise required for the day-to-day and routine troubleshooting and maintenance of the LAN Infrastructure, Videoconference, Firewalls, B2B VPN, Remote Access, Telephony Infrastructure and Network monitoring systems, working with other groups within IT to complete operational tasks.
- Reviews operational inefficiencies, systemic problems, researching and recommending new technology, and acting as the Sr. Network Analyst on major project initiatives.
- Diagnoses and performs analysis on larger-scale problems (e.g. remote access is not working, affecting multiple users), analyzing the individual components that may be contributing to the problem.
- Diagnoses and resolves non-routine and complex network/telephony problems (e.g. DCO core switch failure)
- Designs, installs, supports and troubleshoots more complex technologies such as: Ethernet switches and router equipment, remote access (SSL & IPSec, VPN), WAN compression devices, business to business VPN connections, firewalls, VoIP.
- Diagnoses performance issues and performs application analysis on the largest-scale problems.
- Leads smaller-scale projects of short duration e.g. 1-2 months or components of larger-scale projects, (e.g. cable, plant and equipment), where the impact on the network systems are contained.
- Liaises with vendors in support of communications circuits and communications equipment under contract and with building services regarding the management of the LAN/WAN.
- Plan components of large projects and/or plans and leads small projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- Graduation from a recognized institute of technology in electronics, data networking, telecommunications with a co-o program, or
- Graduation from an equivalent formal education program and relevant technological experience
Experience
- Seven or more years of cumulative technological experience communications and current network technology
- Cisco CCNA or equivalent technical certifications preferred
Abilities and Skills
- Incorporates industry best practices and new technology into CNL's network infrastructure (e.g. compression devices).
- Uses creativity and judgment in resolving non-standard problems.
- Creativity and innovation are a regular part of this position.
- Follows procedures manual and customer service protocol.
- Identifies performance issues using well-defined toolsets.
- Coaches and trains other members of Networks team
Job/Industry Specific Knowledge
- Communicates with other departments regarding the coordination of services e.g. with building services regarding the management of the network and telephony services.
- Leads larger-scale multidisciplinary project teams for periods of long-duration.
- Communicates with vendors as part of a Project Team during the evaluation and vendor selection phase of new network hardware/software.
- Works closely with vendors during the installation phase to identify and document potential problems, and their solution
