What will you be doing!
- Reviewing and Commenting (R&C) on documents related to the Chalk River Laboratories (CRL) Decommissioning Facilities program.
- Performing Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward in various facilities duties, leading facility response to internal and external emergencies.
- Responding to calls during non-business hours and resolving emergency calls.
- Working with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program.
- Maintaining, updating and ensuring CRL Decommissioning Facilities is following the preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, storage-with-surveillance (SwS), and compliance activities on time.
- Supervising and delegating work to teams (up to 20 Staff).
- Leading demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site.
- Supervising the operation of heavy demolition equipment, size reduction, and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste following Waste Management Plans (WMPs).
- Owning and managing job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, and traffic and pedestrian control.
- Leading plan of day (POD) meetings with teams, ensuring pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed.
- Supporting the development and implementation of training.
- Leading and/or assisting in conducting interviews, goal-setting performance management, career development, and disciplinary and promotion actions for assigned staff.
- Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation, and overtime.
- Providing coaching as necessary.
- Ensuring adherence to field work plans and permits, including hold points and signoffs before advancement.
- Working with technical staff to resolve problems/issues and maintain a safe path forward for work execution.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Secondary school graduation in Grade 12 advanced level in Math, Science, and English or equivalent.
- Experience
- A minimum of 10 years experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to be a certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisor.
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills and the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unionized environment/
- Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions;
- Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities regarding decommissioning.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; adept at conveying information to team members and clients, and skilled in collaborative problem-solving.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and encourage autonomy in others, capable of operating with minimal supervision.
- Maintaining team cohesion among reporting staff and across departments.
- Demonstrated strong organization and planning abilities; proficient in setting priorities, developing action plans, meeting deadlines, and monitoring performance.
- Show initiative, motivation, and effective interpersonal skills in interactions with management, peers, and clients.
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control/
- Familiarity with the planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Plan) and work plans;
- Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
- Familiarity with the Canada Labour Code, WHMIS regulations, Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations, and other life safety codes.
- Competence in applying relevant codes and standards for decommissioning nuclear sites and buildings.
- Responds professionally, effectively, and promptly to management, technical staff at all levels, and external agencies.
- Knowledge of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, and company program manuals as they pertain to decommissioning processes.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Must be available for work outside regular hours during emergencies, maintenance needs, decommissioning activities, breakdowns, or to meet regulatory deadlines/commitments.
- 4 day work week, 10-hour shifts.
