Facilities Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) and the Infrastructure Development Group (IDG) are responsible for providing leadership and direction to a team of Junior Job Supervisors. The Job Supervisor will progress Junior Job Supervisors through a training qualification process inclusive of a Training Qualification Card, on-the-job training and scheduled training. The Job Supervisor will collaborate with team members across Facilities Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) and the Infrastructure Development Group (IDG). They will reinforce Management’s expectations for safe work practices, consequences for not following safe work practices and address performance and time management issues at the job site. The Job Supervisor shall also ensure all paperwork, records and procedures are completed and followed, and that all safety rules are adhered to. Provide planning, oversight and support for routine and non-routine work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems compromising the Facility are maintained. Work could involve housekeeping, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ceilings, stripping process equipment and demolition work up to and including entire structures.
What will you be doing!
The Job Supervisor is faced with a wide range of issues daily, as a result of the diverse group of facilities, resources, and composition of the responsibilities of Facilities Decommissioning and the Infrastructure Development Group.
The Supervisor’s duties include:
- Supervise and facilitate training for Junior Job Supervisors;
- Review and Comment (R&C) on documents related to the Junior Job Supervisor program;
- Active participation in the Integrated Work Control (IWC) process including scope development, review and comment, validation walk-downs and following the job steps and/or scope in the work control documentation;
- Respond to calls during non-business hours and resolve emergency calls;
- Work with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program;
- Maintain, update and ensure CRL Decommissioning Facilities is following the preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-with-Surveillance (SWS) and compliance activities on-time;
- Supervise and delegate work to teams (up to 20 Staff);
- Lead demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site;
- Supervise operation of heavy demolition equipment;
- Supervise size reduction and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with Waste Management Plans (WMP’s);
- Own and manage job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices and traffic and pedestrian control;
- Lead Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensure pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed;
- Support the development and implementation of training;
- Leading and or assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting performance management, career development, disciplinary and promotion actions for assigned staff;
- Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation and overtime;
- Provide coaching as necessary;
- Ensure adherence to field work plans and permits including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement.
- Work with technical staff to resolve problems/issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution.
- Ensuring the Junior Job Supervisors are progressing through their Training Qualification Card, attending scheduled training, and participating in on-the-job-training.
- Instructing a multi-disciplinary workforce to follow the plans, documents and procedures pertaining to decommissioning, while following the methods and practices required to be in compliance with company and regulatory guidelines.
- Execution of preventive maintenance, emergency and corrective maintenance, work plan activities, work permits and compliance monitoring, along with preparing a daily log, overseeing field work and maintaining compliance.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Secondary School graduation with Grade 12/13 advanced level with Ontario Academic Credits (OACs) in Math, Science and English or equivalent.
- Experience
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions;
- Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities;
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control;
- Be capable of obtaining Radiation Protection Group 3 certification within 3 months;
- A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures and organization;
- Familiarity with the Planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Plan) and work plans;
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets and detailed instructions;
- Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs;
- Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
- Capable of producing plans and schedules;
- Site Access security clearance;
- Canada Labour Code Part II;
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
- Knowledge of CNSC regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities is an asset; and
- Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings and how to apply them when performing decommissioning activities is required is an asset.
- Ability to be a certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisor.
- Completion of General Job Supervisor Training Qualification Card
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom.
