Facilities Decommissioning & Environmental Remediation (FD&ER) is responsible for the execution of all activities associated with the Decommissioning of facilities that have been transferred to FD at Chalk River Laboratories, Gentilly-1 and Douglas Point. The Job Supervisor reports to the Project Manager of Facilities Decommissioning Program Execution and is responsible for ensuring that facilities, resources, and support groups are operated and maintained in a manner that ensures compliance to CNL’s procedures and regulatory guidelines. They will reinforce Management’s expectations for safe work practices, consequences for not following safe work practices and address performance and time management issues at the job site. The Job Supervisor shall also ensure all paperwork, records and procedures are completed and followed, and that all safety rules are adhered to. Provide planning, oversight and support for routine and non-routine work activities to ensure the structures and operating systems compromising the Facility are maintained. Work could involve housekeeping, construction, partial dismantling, stripping walls/ceilings, stripping process equipment and demolition work up to and including entire structures.
What will you be doing!
- Reviewing and Commenting (R&C) on documents related to the CRL Decommissioning Facilities program;
- Leading facility response to emergencies, both internal and external, as Officer-in-Charge (OIC) or Emergency Steward of various facilities.
- Responding to calls during non-business hours and resolving emergency calls.
- Working with Trades, Projects, Radiation Protection, and other support groups to resolve problems and issues related to the decommissioning program.
- Maintaining, updating, and ensuring CRL Decommissioning Facilities is following the preventative maintenance program and completing all maintenance, Storage-with-Surveillance (SWS) and compliance activities on time.
- Supervising and delegating work to teams (up to 20 Staff) and leading demolition activities in the field in multiple areas of any given job site.
- Supervising the operation of heavy demolition equipment.
- Supervising site reduction and packaging of radioactive/and non-radioactive demolition waste in accordance with Waste Management Plans (WMP’s).
- Owning and managing job sites, including perimeter barriers, signage, staff work practices, and traffic and pedestrian control.
- Leading Plan of Day (POD) meetings with teams, ensuring pre-jobs/post-jobs are completed.
- Supporting the development and implementation of training.
- Leading and or assisting in conducting interviews, goal setting performance management, career development, disciplinary, and promotion actions for assigned staff.
- Authorizing timesheets, leave approvals, vacation, and overtime.
- Providing coaching as necessary.
- Ensuring adherence to field work plans and permits, including hold points and signoffs prior to advancement.
- Working with technical staff to resolve problems/issues to maintain a safe path forward approach to work execution.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
- Education
- Secondary School graduation with Grade 12/13 advanced level with Ontario Academic Credits (OACs) in Math, Science and English or equivalent.
- Experience
- A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience working in a nuclear environment or equivalent.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Well-developed leadership and communication skills including the ability to develop a collaborative, team-oriented work environment in a unionized environment;
- Demonstrated ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions and to lead others in such conditions;
- Familiar with emergency procedures and responsibilities;
- Knowledge and application of radiation protection principles, measurements, and contamination control;
- Be capable of obtaining Radiation Protection Group 3 certification within 3 months;
- A working knowledge of CNL’s practices, procedures and organization;
- Familiarity with the Planning process and Computerized Maintenance Management System;
- Good writing skills for report development, daily logs, OTOs (Order to Operate), RWPs (Radiological Work Plan) and work plans;
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specification sheets and detailed instructions;
- Familiarity with CNL’s compliance programs;
- Understanding of waste management principles and volume reduction methodologies;
- Capable of producing plans and schedules;
- Site Access security clearance;
- Canada Labour Code Part II;
- Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS);
- Knowledge of CNSC regulations and how they apply to decommissioning activities is an asset; and
- Knowledge of the applicable codes associated with decommissioning a nuclear site and buildings and how to apply them when performing decommissioning activities is required is an asset.
- Ability to be a certified Asbestos Abatement Supervisor.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
