Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
As the Environmental Specialist at Cigar Lake, you will be responsible for implementation, monitoring, performance improvement planning, project management, and cultural change management in support of operational waste management improvement activities. You will also support preparation of regulatory compliance reports, such as quarterly and Metal and Diamond Mining Effluent Regulations (MDMER) reporting. In addition, you will support routine and non-routine environmental projects and programs and act as champion for site environmental initiatives involving internal and external stakeholders.
In this role, you will:
- Develop, maintain and provide oversight to the site waste management program.
- Participate in the planning and budget preparation for site waste management initiatives.
- Prepare regulatory compliance reports.
- Assist in developing action plans to address emerging environmental data trends.
- Support environmental department objectives which include environmental monitoring and sampling, as well as wildlife management activities.
- Engage site stakeholders on environmental initiatives by establishing a site environmental committee, as well as plan, prepare and execute on site environmental awareness initiatives. Collaborate with cross functional project and inter-operational teams.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences/environmental management.
- Three or more years of applicable work experience in environmental sciences and regulatory compliance.
- Strong working knowledge of environmental monitoring programs, data management and analysis.
- Equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered.
- Work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- Working knowledge and overall user proficiency with EQuIS data management system.
- P.Ag, P.Bio, or other relevant professional designation would be considered an asset.
- Previous experience in the mining or nuclear industries.
- Emergency response experience and/or certification or willingness to obtain.
