MECHANICAL EQUIPMENT ENGINEERING
We are looking for an Intermediate Mechanical Engineerwith 7+ years of experience for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Essential Responsibilities:
At BWXT NEC, you will work on technically challenging projects as a member of the Fuel Handling mechanical engineering team. You will be responsible for the design of mechanical equipment and systems for CANDU reactors. Projects will involve you in the design, development and test of mechanical equipment for automated and semi-automated fuelling machines, robotic systems, and maintenance tooling for CANDU reactors and related systems. There is also opportunity to work on site assignment at one of the nuclear power plants in Ontario.
- Provide execution of design/analysis/test/commissioning of complex equipment and systems throughout the entire product life cycle.
- Preparation or approval of design documentation (including technical documents, drawings and BOMs), technical specifications, development and test plans, and engineering quotations.
- 3D modelling for purposes of conceptual design, and performing stress analysis.
- Application of design for manufacturability/assembly (DFMA) techniques.
- Provide technical support to CAD, Procurement, Manufacturing, Test, Quality, and Commissioning and Service personnel.
- Participation in internal and external meetings, such as design reviews, preparing and presenting technical data.
- Key success factors are engineering and product excellence, effective design activity management, task/milestone completion on-time/on-budget, producing defect free designs, meeting your metrics, motivating a diverse team, managing and achieving results through influencing and setting of expectations/actions.
- Leading by example, assure compliance and adherence to processes (including internal Business Management System), industry codes and standards, quality systems, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Support process change through process enhancement, and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and product deployment.
- Support customer relationships and ensure market alignment. This position requires interaction with external customers, subcontractors, and cross functional internal teams.
- May support proposal development and review including scope review, estimating as well as technical presentations to the customer.
- Learn to identify project risks, analyze solutions, and take decisive action to resolve issues and communicate these to the leadership team.
- Provide assurance of health and safety associated with the execution of all projects and activities.
- Short term travel may be required for the purpose of meeting with clients and stakeholders.

Experience with 3D CAD software (preference for Inventor/Solidworks) and FEA software (ANSYS).

Experience in the CANDU Nuclear Industry.

Familiarity with CSA Nuclear Codes and Standards.

Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes and Standards.

Knowledge of machine design

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $65,00.00 and $102,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
