McArthur River, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s largest high-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at McArthur River is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
Reporting to the general manager, you will be a collaborative team player who can be relied upon to effectively provide departmental and site direction, foster a culture of excellence, and uphold Cameco’s values. As a senior member of the site leadership team, you will be looked upon to guide a team of professionals through direct oversight, coaching and mentoring, and continuous improvement initiatives. Your efforts will be focused on the end goals of achieving scheduled production safely and sustainability performance in compliance with all provincial and federal regulations, and in accordance with Cameco’s policies and guidelines.
In this role, you will:
- Provide leadership and oversight to the mine engineering and geology departments, including support to mine operations.
- Lead and guide technical inputs of all mine designs, including daily operational performance.
- In consultation with the general manager, establish production, development and improvement objectives and strategies for the operation to support the achievement of Cameco’s objectives.
- Coach and develop a team of problem solvers, evaluate new technology and perform technical assessments to ensure safe, environmental and economic performance.
- Support operational excellence through your leadership and direction in areas of safety, quality and productivity.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure objectives and targets are met.
- Manage and maintain appropriate budgets and workforce levels within your departments to ensure work is planned, scheduled and executed consistently for the operation. Contribute to the development of medium and long-term site strategies.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in mine engineering, or geological engineering
- Registered or eligible for registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan (APEGS)
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive work experience in technical leadership roles (equivalent combination of education and work experience considered)
- Technical and operational experience in underground mine operations
- Strong leadership, communication and relationship building skills
- Work an irregular rotational 4/3 schedule (Mon to Thu) and commute to site by aircraft
Recommended:
- Experience in uranium mining in the Athabasca Basin
- Exposure to continuous improvement methodology such as LEAN, and/or Six Sigma training
