About the role:
As a Principal Engineer you will be responsible, for designing mechanical systems and/or components both in the traditional nuclear market and in new initiatives to develop nuclear technology and future nuclear-powered systems.
You will report to the Manager, Mechatronic Systems and Analysis and be located at our Peterborough location. You will have a hybrid work arrangement of 2 to 3 days per week on site.
Main Responsibilities:

Have broad knowledge of engineering practice in either a Mechanical or Mechatronics discipline, to help resolve complex problems

Oversee the development, and analysis of complex technical products, processes, and systems.
-
Have developed specialised knowledge and is recognised as an experienced engineer in one or more technical competencies and has achieved or is approaching the level of subject matter expert in one or more technical areas.

Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis to qualify systems and/or components against applicable codes & standards
-
Have very sound knowledge and understanding of relevant industrial applications and products.

Responsibilities typically include:

Set daily operational goals for individuals or small teams.
-
Mentor, guide, and train less experienced engineers
-
Provide leadership by example to ensure policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed by less experienced engineers.

You will contribute to solutions to the complex aspects of a project or process.

Provide input and help develop conceptual/detailed equipment designs as they progress through a structured design process
-
Perform both classical hand calculations and analysis (including FEA) to qualify systems or components against applicable codes and standards
-
Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports
-
Prepare concise design reports and technical specifications
-
Perform Engineering Quality evaluation of materials and components following the CSA N299 program
Qualifications:
-
Licensed P.Eng. member of Professional Engineers Ontario with a degree in either: Mechanical, Mechatronics, Nuclear Engineering or Applied Science)

5+ years of relevant experience.
-
Experience in conceptual design development, design reviews and engineering change control processes.
-
Demonstrated experience in the substantiation of custom, first of a kind design within the scope of your practice.

Experience working within computer aided design and analysis tools. (ANSYS, MathCAD)

Experience with manufacturing techniques, welding procedures or specifications and associated inspection techniques.

Excellent written and verbal English skills and comfortable leading teams, meetings and giving presentations.

Apply relevant codes and standards applicable to the design or nuclear components and system including specialised tooling and remote handling equipment

Experience interfacing with customer representatives and providing oversight of vendors.
