We are looking for a Buyer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems. Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

JOB SUMMARY:
The Buyer - Fuel Operations, works to support the procurement needs of several Fuel plant sites to make purchases in compliance with Sourcing policies and procedures. Purchasing activity includes raw materials, components, consumables and services. The Buyer may be required to work in complement with teams from Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Environmental Health & Safety, and Production Control.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Purchase product in support of several Fuel Operation manufacturing sites, which will include machined parts made to drawing specifications, as well as items with assigned Quality Assurance or EHS requirements.
- Locate Engineering drawings and confirm the drawing against the item master prior to issue for inventory replenishment.
- Assist with the collection of QA-required documentation, when requested by Quality Assurance.
- Notify Quality Assurance where purchase orders with Quality requirements cannot be issued due to such things as expired vendor qualifications in JD Edwards.
- Review open orders, communicate with vendors to expedite items identified as late, and consult with process owners where delays become possible for critical items with low inventory count.
- Review inventory levels based on delivery lead times and adjust quantities as appropriate to avoid shortages of items critical to production.
- Interact with Finance to refresh vendor payment information for Fuel Operations vendors as requested by the vendor.
- Interact with Finance to enroll new vendors into BWXT’s system.
- Interact with AP to facilitate invoice payment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 to 5 years of procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to develop supplier relations.
- Strong negotiation skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
- Ability to work effectively within teams.
- Experience with JD Edwards software will be considered an asset.
- Ability to read and understand Engineering drawings will be considered an asset.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $74,000.00 and $114,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment.
