The Steam Generator Replacement Team (SGRT) project is a fully integrated Joint Venture of Aecon and Framatome, located in Kincardine, Ontario. SGRT is a part of the Major Component Replacement (MCR) project and includes the removal of the steam generators at Unit 3 and 4 and the installation of replacement steam generators with related plant modifications. This project is part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064. In addition to the existing contracts for Unit 3 and Unit 4, SGRT has signed a long-term Preferred Supplier Agreement for steam generator replacements at the plant’s remaining units as part of the Bruce Major Component Replacement project. Both Shoreline and SGRT are part of Bruce Power’s Life Extension Program, which will allow Bruce Power’s CANDU units to continue to operate safely through to 2064.
Reporting to the EHS & HU Director, the Radiation Protection (RP) Program Lead will provide leadership on broad scope radiation protection and ALARA services for the project. They are responsible for working with Shoreline, SGRT and Bruce Power Health Physicists to recommend and develop guidelines to prove radiation safety during the different execution and design phases. This role also oversees the SPG and SGRT Health Physicists and ALARA Coordinators to ensure scheduled tasks and deliverables are being completed, reviewed and approved, on time, to support work in the station.
Your role within the team:
- Ensure schedule compliance for ALARA and RP deliverables.
- Act as an SME for RP related issues, work with trades, supervision and the client to ensure issues are escalated appropriately to ensure resolution.
- Ensure controls, as outlined in ALARA planning, are implemented for the work.
- Develop individual and collective radiation dose projections and recommend worker dose reduction strategies.
- Provide Radiation Protection Review for operational readiness and design reviews.
- Develop and deliver training on radiation protection program topics.
- Capture, monitor and incorporate new OPEX driven elements into the Radiation Protection Plan.
- Provide oversight on implementation and execution of radiation protection corrective actions.
- Collaborate with client’s Radiation Protection/Health Physics team during the multiple execution phases of the project.
- Track collective radiation exposure for the project during execution phases of the project.
- Provide direction and oversight into work execution planes to ensure compliance with the clients Radiation Protection program.
- Lead/Participate in investigations related to Radiological events.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Supervisory responsibilities:
- Ensure employee and trade compliance with dosimetry and radiation monitoring requirements.
- Support corrective actions in relation to radiation protection.
- Supervise ALARA Coordinators, Jr. Health Physicists, and Health Physicists.

The ideal candidate:
- Eight years’ field experience in a nuclear power generating facility, 4 of which in a supervisory role.
- Current or previous Green Qualification.
- Ability to manage schedule priorities and deliverables within the Radiation Protection Team.
- Knowledge of key principles of dose management.
- Ability to effectively address worker radiation safety concerns by explaining program application requirements and safety principles.
- Ability to effectively lead and supervise a team of technical specialists.
- Knowledge of the nuclear regulatory framework, along with codes and standards applicable for nuclear work in Canada.
- Fiscal responsibility as required by the Joint Venture agreement.
- Extent of public contact:
- Customers, suppliers, JV Partners.
- Project Managers, project personnel, estimating personnel.
- Trades personnel, union business agents.
- Physical demands:
- Various work locations in both field and office.
- Travel as necessary.
- Work in respirator and plastics (as required).
- Radiological environments.
- Other Qualifications:
- Due to the nature of work conducted by Shoreline & SGRT, mandated nuclear export controls requirements must be met for employment.
