We’re on the hunt for a Control Systems Simulation Engineer on our Robotics & Space Operations team at our Brampton office.
Robotics & Space Operations: With 40 years of operational experience and proven performance on the iconic Canadarm programs including Space Shuttle and International Space Station robotics and operations support, our Robotics & Space Operations team has 100% mission success in making space dreams come true. As our Control Systems Analysist Engineer, you will work in the Logistics & Sustaining Engineering (L&SE) programs (to support On-Orbit Space Station activities), and/or Gateway External Robotics System, and/or R&D activities.
Roles and Responsibilities:
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for the following:
- Simulation and Validation: Perform simulation runs to validate mathematical models, new parameters, and control algorithms, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of our robotic systems.
- Troubleshooting and Analysis: Troubleshoot robotics control algorithms using on-orbit telemetry data and ground test data to identify and resolve issues.
- Mathematical Modeling: Develop complex mathematical models of multibody rigid/flexible robotic systems and their interaction with the environment, utilizing in-house developed simulators.
- Software Analysis: Utilize programming languages such as MATLAB/Simulink, C++, or other software tools to analyze and optimize robotic system performance.
- Control System Tuning: Optimize control system parameters for manipulators to meet performance and stability objectives required for on-orbit tasks.
- Simulation Tool Development: Develop state-of-the-art simulation tools, leveraging computer vision algorithms and AI/Machine Learning technologies to enhance our capabilities.
- Technical Ownership: Assume technical ownership of simulation tools, ensuring they are properly version controlled, validated, and documented to maintain high standards.
- Results Presentation: Present analysis results to key stakeholders, including Technical Leads, Program management, Canadian Space Agency, European Space Agency, and NASA.
- Technology Development and Innovation: Contribute to technology development (R&D activities) and the Front End of the Business, driving innovation and growth through cutting-edge solutions.
Requirements
To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Interested candidates ideally possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field, such as Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or Applied Mathematics.
- The candidate should have a minimum of 5-8+ years of hands-on experience in advanced control and dynamic modelling of multi-DOF manipulators, as well as algorithm implementation.
- The candidate must demonstrate hands-on experience in designing and implementing simulators using MATLAB/Simulink, C++, or other software languages.
- The candidate should understand the product development cycle process, including analysis and design, development technologies and tools and technologies, version control, and testing methodologies.
- Previous experience with a customer-facing position, handling design requirements, test acceptance, and verification. Working for a government customer like NASA or the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) is a plus.
- The candidate should be able to effectively work on numerous projects and tasks at a time, while meeting reasonable deadlines. The candidate must have demonstrated the ability to work in a team environment.

The compensation range for this position is $94,782 - $121,024 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
