Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
Reporting to the drilling and freezing engineer, the refrigeration mechanic utilizes their trade knowledge primarily to assist with the operation of our freeze plants, along with other refrigeration equipment on site. The safe, effective efforts of the tradesperson in this role play an important part in the success of our operation.
In this role, you will:
- Contribute to the safe operation of the freeze plant and its associated equipment.
- Support the field training and mentoring of freeze plant operators.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of all refrigeration equipment on site, including the freeze plant, site HVAC, and kitchen refrigeration equipment.
- Help plan, coordinate, and execute freeze plant equipment shutdowns and start-ups.
- Support the preventative maintenance of existing equipment, including utilizing troubleshooting techniques to identify active and potential problems.
- Ensure that new equipment installations comply with relevant regulations.
Required:
- minimum grade 12 diploma or equivalent;
- valid Saskatchewan or interprovincial journeyperson refrigeration mechanic certification;
- currently hold valid Saskatchewan refrigeration engineer certification (TSASK) or able to obtain it within six months
- five years of relevant ammonia-based refrigeration work experience in an industrial setting;
- halocarbon reclamation certification;
- good communication skills and ability to work effectively with others;
- computer literate with good organizational skills;
- excellent safety record; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- greater than 100T ammonia freeze plant experience;
- experience using SAP based maintenance applications such as SIGGA and Bentley; and
- proficient in Microsoft Office/MS365 software.

The Cigar Lake operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a two week on/two week off rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
