Accountabilities: How You Will Make an Impact
The Mechanical and Civil Engineering Directorate is currently growing in response to the needs of our nuclear medical isotope portfolio. We are looking for highly motivated engineers to:
- Perform engineering analysis and design for medical isotopes production and processing systems.
- Interface with construction/procurement partners and utility stakeholders, throughout the lifecycle of the design project (i.e., from preliminary and conceptual engineering to detailed design, implementation and close-out) to provide practical and effective solutions as per requirements.
- Provide design field support including provision of field engineering.
- Understand and assess client problems and determine appropriate means of solution.
- Conduct technical assessments and emergent troubleshooting/engineering to support commissioning and operation of isotope production systems.
- Integrate and technically lead assigned aspects of Isotope project delivery. Interface effectively with staff from other technical areas such as Nuclear Safety & Licensing and stay current with developments within their field of expertise.
- System and process design, including preparation of system design requirements and specifications, flow diagrams, general arrangement and isometric drawings
- Vendor-interface and preparation of equipment & component specifications to facilitate procurement including selection of nuclear and conventional valves, flanges, fittings, pumps and tanks as well as transport shielding flasks, lead shielding glass and robotic manipulator arms used for hot cell operations.
- Design assistance with technical evaluations, independent third-party reviews, design walkdowns, system hydraulic calculations, component sizing calculations and HVAC flow balance calculations.
- Nuclear component and assembly design employing GD&T.
What You Need to Succeed
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize assigned work and to coordinate multiple activities efficiently.
- Must have a strong attention to detail and adherence to quality assurance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience in preparation of reports, proposals, technical recommendations and presentations for internal and external clients.
- Good time management skills and demonstrated capability to interface effectively with and gain the trust of industry customers.
- A Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Nuclear, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering (or equivalent) is required.
- 5+ years of relevant experience is required.
- Must have experience in a project driven environment with the capability to meet deadlines, work under pressure, and within project constraints (time, cost, quality).
- ASME Section III Appendix XXIII qualification, tooling design, modular design and Hot Cell experience is considered an asset.
- Knowledge and implementation of client Engineering Change Control programs.
- Working knowledge of Nuclear Quality Assurance Standards such as the N299 series and CSA N286.
- Candidates are expected to have or to pursue attainment of the P.Eng. designation.
This role requires the successful candidate to complete the security clearance process. The security clearance process is conducted in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and may take up to 12 months to complete.
