Primary Location: Richmond, BC
Scope: Primary responsibility for the Richmond facility, with potential oversight of additional MDA Space Geointelligence facilities. Travel is expected to be between 15% to 30% of the job.
The Position
MDA Space Geointelligence is seeking an experienced Facilities Manager to lead the safe, secure, and efficient operation of our facilities, with primary accountability for our Richmond, BC site. This role supports a mission-critical, security-sensitive environment and plays a key role in ensuring business continuity, employee safety, and reliable facility operations that enable successful customer missions.
The successful candidate will bring deep facilities management experience, including maintaining secure facilities, strong stakeholder-influencing skills, and the ability to balance operational reliability, compliance, cost control, and service excellence. Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Facilities Manager works closely with internal teams, service providers, landlords, and leadership across the Geointelligence business.
Responsibilities
- Facilities Operations & Maintenance
Direct and oversee the repair, maintenance, and upkeep of buildings, infrastructure, and grounds.
Ensure reliable operation of critical building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, and access control systems.
Develop, schedule, and execute preventive maintenance programs to reduce risk and ensure continuity of operations.
Maintain facilities in accordance with security, regulatory, and corporate requirements.
- Security, Health & Safety, & Compliance
Maintain and support secure facilities in accordance with security requirements; must be eligible for security clearance in Canada.
Manage facility security, parking, and access control systems to ensure a safe and secure work environment.
Implement and maintain environmental, health and safety protocols, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.
Lead emergency preparedness planning, response procedures, drills, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
Ensure uninterrupted delivery of essential services such as water, heating, power, and waste disposal.
Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related emergencies and after-hours incidents.
- Vendor & Contract Management
Oversee third-party service providers including cleaning, security, landscaping, catering, and maintenance contractors.
Negotiate, manage, and monitor vendor contracts to ensure service quality, compliance, safety and value for money.
Engage with landlords as required to address facility issues, coordinate repairs, and support upgrades or improvements.
- Annual Planning, Budget & Financial Management
Prepare annual facilities plans, including scope of work, service requirements, and cost estimates.
Establish agreed plans with clear metrics and track progress with weekly updates.
Manage facilities operating budgets, monitor expenditures, and track utility usage.
Identify and implement cost-saving and efficiency opportunities while maintaining service quality and compliance.
- Staff Supervision & Leadership
Hire, train, schedule, lead, and manage on-site facilities staff, including maintenance, janitorial, and security teams.
Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and collaboration within the facilities function.
Support performance management, development, and workforce planning.
- Projects & Space Management
Plan and oversee facility-related projects including renovations, office moves, space reconfigurations, new installations, and construction activities.
Coordinate venue setup and logistical support for meetings, events, and business activities.
Manage space planning and office layout changes to support evolving operational and business needs.
- Reporting & Communication
Prepare clear, concise reports on facility condition, budgets, milestones, risks, and operational performance.
Conduct regular facility inspections, track issues, and ensure timely resolution.
Serve as the primary point of contact for facility-related emergencies and after-hours incidents.
Delegate for or act on behalf of the Director of Operations as required, supporting continuity of leadership and decision-making.
Qualifications/ Requirements
- Post-secondary education in Facilities Management, Engineering, Building Operations, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in facilities management, preferably within a complex, multi-site or mission-critical environment.
- Experience maintaining and operating secure facilities; must be eligible for security clearance in Canada.
- Strong working knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and health and safety regulations.
- Demonstrated experience managing vendors, contracts, and facility budgets.
- Proven people leadership and supervisory experience.
- Strong stakeholder influencing, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the SECRET status level II, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).

The compensation range for this position is $110,000 to $135,000 annually. The specific compensation offered will be based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
