Role:
This is a fully skilled level of work. Under the direction of senior technicians and specialists, or technical staff/engineers, find solutions to a variety of technical problems using established methods in assignments of high complexity, involving systems and experimental equipment of a complex nature. Methods are rarely documented. Working from general guidelines. Opportunity to participate in testing of highly complex production units or systems. Initiative in performing these tasks is essential.
Responsibilities/Duties:
- Assemble or modify experimental setups or test equipment and models based on verbal instructions.
- Assemble, modify and verify equipment test benches.
- Perform tests, experiments, troubleshooting, alignment and calibration of complex units and systems.
- Record and analyze data relating to test or experiment results. Prepare reports and make recommendations as part of assigned tasks.
- Monitor and test units in thermal chambers or vacuum chambers.
- Assist in the preparation of test plans and procedures.
- Participate in the development of detailed designs and performance specifications to meet the requirements of components, systems, experiments, processes, etc.
- Coordinate assigned test activity to ensure availability of equipment and adequate documentation and ensure that test engineering is aware of any scheduling conflicts or technical issues that may arise during the assignment.
- Direct and review the work of one or more less experienced technicians.
- Assist in preparing time and cost estimates in project or operational planning when requested.
- Plan and perform non-routine tasks involving limited ranges of technical/organizational and scientific principles.
- Perform work in accordance with internal procedures and in compliance with our occupational health and safety rules.
- Able to search for documents and parts using MDA’s electronic tools (WebPLM, InforLN, etc.).
- Familiar with the inventory purchase request process.
- Able to open a test non-conformance report (TNR).
- Perform other related duties.
Assigned tasks: Must be able to perform Level 9 tasks, as well as perform the following tasks under minimal supervision from engineering or a more experienced technician, as assigned:
Digital:
- Able to perform thermal and vacuum thermal testing. Requires a good knowledge of thermal and vacuum thermal chambers, controllers and data acquisition systems.
- Able to perform and understand complex measurements with digital oscilloscopes (differential measurements, eye pattern, IQ, phase, jitter, etc.) and other measurement instruments related to the skill without assistance.
- Able to build and calibrate test benches independently.
- Basic EMC tests: Conducted susceptibility, radiated susceptibility.
- Able to produce a detailed and complete parts list using MDA electronic tools.
Comments/Special Considerations:
Successful candidates must obtain and hold security clearance at the reliability status level, and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
