Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. The Role
As a member of the Cigar Lake safety, health, environment and quality group, this role is primarily responsible for carrying out environmental compliance monitoring activities. This role also includes duties related to wildlife management, site inspections, and assisting in the response to environment-related events. The environment technician will also play a significant role in providing training and information to employees on environmental issues and related aspects of the operation. This is a nine-month temporary position.
In this role, you will:
- Collect, prepare, and ship environmental samples.
- Perform data entry and synthesis.
- Prepare reports related to department activity.
- Conduct site environmental inspections.
- Assist with wildlife management activities and programs.
- Support the response to environmental emergency events on site.
Required:
- environmental monitoring technician certificate or diploma in a related field;
- minimum of six months of relevant work experience;
- equivalent combination of education and work experience considered;
- valid class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent)
- excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, as well as problem-solving abilities; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
Recommended:
- an understanding of the relevant governing acts, procedures, and policies;
- field experience, including operation and maintenance of boats, snowmobiles, and all-terrain vehicles, along with any required operator training/certification; and
- computer experience, including data entry, database, and MS Office.

Preference will be given to Residents of Saskatchewan’s North (RSN).
The Cigar Lake operation is located in northern Saskatchewan and operates on a two week on/two week off rotational schedule. Employees commute to the site by aircraft from designated locations in Saskatchewan.
