The Role
As a member of the Technical Services team, you will report to the program manager, McArthur River, and serve as a key leadership partner and second‑in‑command for the execution of complex, high‑impact projects supporting the McArthur River Operation. This role is designed for a seasoned project leader who thrives in technically challenging environments, demonstrates strong judgment, and can step into broader program‑level leadership when required. You will play a critical role in ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with Cameco’s operational and strategic objectives.
In this role, you will:
- Act as the second‑in‑command to the program manager, providing leadership continuity, decision support, senior leadership communications, and oversight across a portfolio of projects supporting the McArthur River Operation.
- Lead, oversee, and directly manage complex mining and infrastructure projects.
- Serve as a trusted interface between corporate technical services, site operations, subject matter experts, and external partners.
- Collaborate closely with operations and functional leaders to ensure projects are integrated, constructible, and aligned with site priorities.
- Leverage internal and external subject matter expertise to drive technical excellence, innovation, and value throughout project execution.
- Identify, manage, and communicate project‑level risks, interfaces, and dependencies, escalating issues appropriately to support informed leadership decisions.
- Support the development of consistent project execution practices and contribute to continuous improvement across the broader program.
Required:
- diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related technical or business discipline; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience will be considered;
- minimum 10 years of progressive project management experience within mining or heavy industrial environments, with demonstrated accountability for complex, high‑risk projects;
- proven experience delivering projects across the full project lifecycle, including initiation, planning and estimating, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and monitoring and control, for both greenfield and brownfield industrial projects;
- demonstrated ability to think strategically and creatively, facilitate practical solutions, and drive projects to successful outcomes in technically complex environments;
- ability to operate effectively in a fast‑paced, dynamic setting, building credibility, trust, and productive working relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders; and
- travel to site by aircraft when required.
Recommended:
- PMP certification, trade certification, and/or professional engineering designation (or the demonstrated ability to obtain relevant certification); and
- experience leveraging modern digital project management tools and applying LEAN or continuous improvement methodologies to enhance project delivery, efficiency, and outcomes.
