Cigar Lake
Cigar Lake, located in northern Saskatchewan, is the world’s highest-grade uranium mine. The uranium produced at Cigar Lake is used for nuclear fuel products, which utilities around the world rely on to generate safe, reliable, emissions-free nuclear power. Cameco is one of the largest global providers of the uranium fuel needed to energize a clean-air world.
The Role
As part of the site operational group, shaft operations you will be responsible for:
- Operating, inspecting and maintaining the main cage and skip conveyance.
- Preparing equipment and materials to be moved to/from the underground using slings and rigging.
- Operating equipment such as Telehandler’s and skid steer loader.
- Working with a diverse workforce (Cameco employees, contractors, and trades personnel).
- Fulfil all duties as detailed in the mine’s regulations Mine Shaft 1 operator training requirements.
- Plan and execute rope changes, rope cuts and other shaft maintenance.
Required:
- grade 12 diploma, or equivalent;
- a minimum five years of underground mining industry experience;
- must successfully pass the crane and rigging course;
- previous mine shaft experience in a lead role;
- ability to achieve and maintain hoist operator/supervisor certificate;
- slinging and rigging experience in a lead role;
- previous lead hand experience;
- excellent communication and computer skills;
- certification for transportation of explosives; and
- work a rotational schedule and commute to site by aircraft.
