In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Information Technology division is currently hiring for an Informational Technology (IT) Technician.
The IT Technician will perform installations, maintenance and repair work on computer equipment (including, microcomputers, computer terminals, communications equipment, local area network, equipment and peripherals), perform troubleshooting activities and carry out equipment modifications as required, maintain a parts inventory and deliver informal presentations to staff on information obtained through attendance at training courses, and run recovery procedures on damaged volumes, files, or documents and perform administrative activities to maintain efficient day-to-day system operation.

These are permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Installations: Review work orders, resolve issues with department analysts, and install boards, components, peripherals, PCs, terminals, and printers. Assist senior technicians with major installations, load operating software, and verify hardware/software interfaces.
Maintenance Service Work: Review deficiency reports, diagnose problems, use diagnostic tools to identify failed components, replace faulty parts, perform preventative maintenance, and verify effective restoration. Document service calls.
Equipment Repair: Refurbish and rebuild small peripheral devices, perform testing routines, and ensure devices are restored to peak operational state.
Equipment Modifications: Alter components and boards as per Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and service calls.
Troubleshooting: Investigate recurring equipment problems, apply diagnostic methods, and report results for further analysis.
Inventory Management: Maintain parts inventory, order parts, ship parts for repair, and keep records of systems operation and maintenance.
Presentations: Share information from training courses with unit staff, prepare presentation materials, and document solutions to new problems.
Technology Updates: Stay informed about new technologies, participate in LAN user group meetings, and suggest solutions to system problems.
Routine Procedures: Perform system conversions, software upgrades, recovery procedures, and other administrative activities to maintain system operation.
System Failures: Investigate and troubleshoot system failures, run diagnostic routines, work with vendor support, and restore databases.
System Maintenance: Monitor file organization, perform archiving, schedule maintenance, inform clients of system issues, and respond to user requests.
Studies and Improvements: Conduct studies to optimize system performance, develop monitoring systems, and recommend improvements.
Program Development: Assist in developing, testing, and implementing computer programs, review new procedures, and demonstrate programs to users.
Software and Equipment Coordination: Install, test, and evaluate new/upgraded software and equipment, ensure proper configuration, and recommend changes.
Standards and Procedures: Develop and maintain office systems standards, provide support to staff, identify deficiencies, and coordinate work efforts.
Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as required.
Knowledge and Skills
Experience with a broad range of computerized office systems and applications software to assist users, perform routine system procedures, troubleshoot malfunctions, and install hardware and software.
Practical experience in installation, maintenance, repair, modification, and troubleshooting of various computer equipment, including microcomputers, terminals, communications equipment, local area networks, word processors, and peripherals.
Familiarity with related test equipment, manuals, operating and maintenance processes, standards, procedures, work routines, practices, work programs, and schedules.
Experience with utilities, commands, and application software for installation and maintenance activities, and in preparing and making presentations.
Detailed knowledge of computerized office systems and applications to support users, perform routine maintenance, and troubleshoot system failures and malfunctions.
Knowledge of utilities and commands for writing and testing specialized batch programs, manipulating files, and setting up system conditions.
Understanding of general business and office practices to meet office systems requirements.
Proficiency in English for effective communication, informal presentations, assistance, and documentation preparation.
Knowledge of electricity, mathematics, physics, electronic devices, circuits, measurements, computer hardware, software, interfacing, and peripherals.
Understanding of digital electronics theory and logic for computer-based equipment in data processing and communications.
Knowledge of test equipment, test packages, and diagnostic methods for troubleshooting and resolving problems.
Education and Experience
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired in a Grade XII education in a secondary school plus up to 2 years further concentrated study in relevant courses, or the equivalent education.
A period of over 3 years and up to and including 4 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
